Holder's Gun Ban List Targets Veterans
In 2009 the federal government said, in the now-infamous "rightwing extremism" document leaked to Infowars and others, that "veterans possess combat skills and experience that are attractive to rightwing extremists" and that the government was concerned these extremists would "attempt to recruit and radicalize returning veterans in order to boost their violent capabilities."
On Wednesday the Attorney General was grilled by the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee about a list denying veterans their Second Amendment right under the Constitution. The Justice Department considers the former soldiers on the list to be "mental defective."
"According to the Congressional Research Service, as of June 1, 2012, 99.3% of all names reported to the NICS list's 'mental defective' category were provided by the Veterans Administration (VA) even though reporting requirements apply to all federal agencies," Iowa Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley said.
The government is using assistance requests by veterans to deny their constitutional right to own a firearm.
"A reports individuals to the gun ban list if an individual merely needs financial assistance managing VA benefits. Although the VA process is not designed to regulate firearm ownership, it results in veterans and their loved ones being barred from exercising their fundamental, Constitutionally-guaranteed Second Amendment rights," Grassley noted.
Constitutional attorney Michael Connelly revealed a letter "sent by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to hundreds, perhaps thousands, of America's heroes."
"A determination of incompetency will prohibit you from purchasing, possessing, receiving, or transporting a firearm or ammunition," the VA letter states. "If you knowingly violate any of these prohibitions, you may be fined, imprisoned, or both pursuant to the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act, Pub.L.No. 103-159, as implemented at 18, United States Code 924(a)(2)."
Connelly noted that the letter provided no specifics on the reasons for the proposed finding of incompetency and was based on a determination by a bureaucrat at the VA. Connelly said Obama "wants a totally disarmed America so there will be no resistance to his plans to rob us of our nation. That means we have to ask who will be next. If you are receiving a Social Security check, will you get one of these letters? Will the government declare that you are incompetent because of your age and therefore banned from firearm ownership? It certainly fits in with the philosophy and plans of the Obama Administration. It is also certain that our military veterans don't deserve this and neither do any other Americans."

Sheriff Refuses to Enforce
Unconstitutional Gun Law
As things develop in Josephine County concerning the Bureau of Land Management's threats against the owners of the Sugar Pine mine in southern Oregon, the sheriff of that county said that neither he nor his office would enforce a state law that legislators are attempting to pass that would expand background checks to include private sales.
Senate Bill 941, a 23-page monstrosity that completely oversteps the authority of government over the people, is called the Oregon Firearms Safety Act. The bill was passed by the Oregon Senate on Tuesday by a vote of 17-13. It will now head to the House, where Socialist Democrats believe it will have a swift and easy passage. Politicians were also called out by the Oregon Firearms Federation for not being truthful with those they serve.
"The Senate debate proved that supporters of SB 941 did not read it or were willing to lie about it," the organization wrote on its website. "Senator Prozanski said you would be able to loan a firearm to someone to go hunting, but that's not true unless you were with them at the time they were hunting. He said the bill would not prevent a transfer to a person who was 18 to 21. That is also false. This bill is riddled with contradictions and unenforceable provisions."
Josephine County Sheriff Dave Daniel is having none of it. Daniel is new on the job, following in the footsteps of Sheriff Gil Gilbertson, who had previously written a letter to Joe Biden concerning federal gun laws, warning him, "Any rule, regulation, or executive order repugnant to the constitutional rights of the citizens of this County will be ignored by this office."
According to the Examiner, "Sheriff Dave Daniel announced to the media on Tuesday that he and his department won't enforce a state law."
"Sheriff Daniel, who is the new top cop for Josephine County, which shares a border with northern California, told reporters that he believes this latest gun control law goes against his county's charter," wrote Jim Kouri of the Examiner. "He also said his department doesn't have a sufficient number of deputies to pursue lawbreakers who are committing a frivolous misdemeanor."
Sheriff Tim Mueller of Linn County, Oregon, says he believes that no crime, no matter how heinous, should prompt politicians to take away liberties. "Making criminals out of honest citizens-that's not the right path to go down," said Mueller.

Colorado Campus Carry: 12 Years, No Mass Shootings, No Crimes by Permit Holders
On April 20th The Washington Post ran a column saying that campus carry has been the law of the land in Colorado since 2003 and the results have not been anything like those currently fighting against campus carry claim it should be. There have been no mass shootings and, apart from one incident in which a gun was accidentally discharged by a Colorado University employee, there have been no crimes by permit holders. No one was injured in the accidental discharge, and the employee was fired.
The success of campus carry in Colorado is especially good news for women, who are able to level the playing field by being armed, which makes them better able to defend their dignity when under sexual attack. The U.S. Census Bureau conducts in-person interviews with several thousand persons annually for the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS). In 1992-2002 over 2,000 of the persons interviewed disclosed they had been raped or sexually assaulted. Of them, only 26 volunteered that they used a weapon to resist. The attempted rape was completed in none of those 26 cases, and in none of the cases did the victim suffer additional injury after she deployed her weapon. So, in the 26 assaults in which a woman had access to a weapon, she was able to stop the rape and was not further assaulted.
Florida State University criminologist Gary Kleck conducted a much broader examination of NCVS data. Analyzing a data set of 27,595 attempted violent crimes and 16 types of protective actions, Kleck found that resisting with a gun greatly lowered the risk of the victim being injured or of the crime being completed. This is 180 degrees from what campus carry opponents want us to believe.
For example, on February 24, MSNBC published an op-ed in which Shannon Watts of Moms Demand Action claimed passing legislation to allow women to be armed on campus for self-defense could open the door for more people to "perpetrate sexual assault" against women on campuses. And four days later Salon magazine published a piece in which they used figures from Everytown for Gun Safety suggesting women will be in even greater danger if the gun-free zones are eradicated. No credible data exists to support such claims. [Source: Breitbart.com - AWR Hawkins; 4/20/15]

Jury Awards $80K to
Arlington Heights Firearm Owner
On Thursday a jury found Arlington Heights police Sgt. Charles Buczynski guilty of illegal entry into a home and unreasonable seizure of property. The jury ordered him to pay 72-year-old Arthur Lovi $45,000. The jury also found Arlington Heights Cmdr. Richard Gausselin guilty of unreasonable seizure of person for coercing Lovi into an ambulance and ordered him to pay $25,000. An additional $10,000 was awarded to Lovi to pay his medical bills and to fix damage done to his antique guns during their seizure. Three other officers named in the suit were found not guilty.
Lovi had been an Air Force crash rescue helicopter pilot in the 1960s and had been seeing a Veterans Administration (VA) psychiatrist once a month. However he experienced a lot of difficulty in recent years. "I felt like the weight of the world was on my shoulders," he said.
In recent years his mother died, a 3-year-old granddaughter drowned, his son-in-law was lost to a drug overdose and, worst of all, his wife of 33 years died as a result of a medical misdiagnosis. Lovi told the therapist about his wife's death and his bitterness over the incorrect diagnosis; he admitted if he ever saw the doctor that misdiagnosed his wife, he would "beat him up," but emphasized that he would not seek him out to assault him.
Following the session, which took place on August 30, 2012, Lovi's therapist claims that she was concerned. She informed the Arlington Heights police that Lovi had made a threat against the first doctor who saw his wife. She told them she didn't think he would carry it out or that he was dangerous to himself or others, but she just wanted to do her job and report it. Lovi's firearms were subsequently confiscated as a result and Lovi filed a lawsuit. [Source: Freedom Outpost - Tim Brown 4/20/15]

Chicago Concealed Carry Holder
Protects Logan Square Crowd
An Uber driver is being hailed by many as a hero after he shot and disabled a gunman allegedly firing into a crowd gathered in Chicago's Logan Square last Friday.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the 47-year-old driver used his concealed carry firearm to shoot Everado Custodio, who opened fire on pedestrians near the sidewalk. The driver, who has not been named, fired six shots from his firearm and struck Custodio in the shin, thigh and lower back. No other injuries were reported. Custodio was transported to a local hospital for treatment and has since been charged with aggravated assault and unlawful use of a weapon.
Authorities say no charges are expected for the Uber driver. Assistant State's Attorney Barry Quinn told CBS News that the driver "was acting in self-defense and in the defense of others."
Quinn said the incident occurred after the driver dropped off a customer near Logan Square and was sitting in his parked car when Custodio opened fire on a group of pedestrians. The Uber driver pulled out his gun and fired back. When patrolling police officers arrived at the scene, they found Custodio on the ground and bleeding heavily. A handgun was recovered near Custodio, and it is believed to be the weapon used to fire on the crowd. The Uber driver also stayed behind and provided police with his documentation of gun ownership and concealed carry permit. [Source: Outdoorhub.com - Daniel Xu 4/21/15]
