Thought for the week
Contrary to what is often claimed, the argument for individual liberty does not require one to adopt an optimistic view of human nature- on the contrary, if one believes that people are too ignorant, careless, or corrupt to make good decisions in their own lives, that is all the more reason not to trust them with power over others.

Liberty Ammunition has introduced its new 9mm Civil Defense Round. Rob Pincus, the managing editor of Personal Defense Network, first tested the ammunition by firing it into ballistics gel without a barrier and had this to say about it: "the Civil Defense Ammunition from Liberty does exactly what it's supposed to. It gives us our depth of penetration with the base but it also creates a lot of damage out here in that 5-6 inch range as it enters the human body. That's what we want to see from any good hollow point." Pincus then fired the ammunition through a barrier of three stacked panes of tempered industrial safety glass and into ballistics gel. "Even through very thick tempered glass, multiple panes... this proves you're going to get that penetration, that damage you're looking for with the Civil Defense Ammunition from Liberty," Pincus said about the barrier test. The Civil Defense 9mm is a copper, monolithic, hollow-point fragmenting 50 grain round. MSRP: $25.99

Editorial
Enough Already
David A. Lombardo
I am getting very tired of being asked why I think I need an assault weapon. When will society in its entirety accept the reality that the nefarious deeds of one armed madman do not reflect upon the character or disposition of millions of law-abiding, armed citizens? Nor, for that matter, do the deeds of ten, a hundred or a thousand armed madmen. Evil is not a reflection of the right to keep and bear arms any more than it is a reflection of the right to free speech.
The Constitution was forged with the intense heat generated by Great Britain's King George III, who viewed colonists as sheep to be shorn. The spark that ignited the revolution was the King's Army attempting to confiscate the firearms of the colonists. How could anyone imagine that the Second Amendment was anything but the right of the individual to protect him from a government run amok?
Nothing in the Constitution was written with the intent to curb the ability of John Q to own firearms to protect him from tyranny, and the Tenth Amendment underscores that fact. It says, "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people." The nitpicking falls to semantics.
Those who would have you believe the Founding Fathers never intended for the common man to be armed may hold up the Second Amendment and mince words, debate punctuation, and rail against the interpretation of those boorish citizens who inhabit what they disdainfully refer to as fly-over country, those angry Red Staters who cling to their Bibles and guns.
Our Pansy-in-Chief, a self-proclaimed Constitutional scholar, tells us the Constitution is a living document, and good judgment dictates that the possession of firearms by John Q is antiquated and no longer appropriate in today's world. I trust Mexican tap water more than this president.
It is precisely those Patrician scholars-the ones who think there are 57 states and believe Lincoln exchanged prisoners at the end of the Civil War-that sagely reassure us the Second Amendment does not apply to individual rights. They would have you believe they know the thoughts of the Founding Fathers, but they are full of crap. Go to the Federalist Papers and other tomes penned by the Founding Fathers and read their words.
In 1823 Thomas Jefferson, recognizing there were those who would try to interpret the Constitution to fit their own agendas, wrote, "On every occasion of Constitutional interpretation let us carry ourselves back to the time when the Constitution was adopted, recollect the spirit manifested in the debates, and instead of trying to force what meaning may be squeezed out of the text, or invented against it, instead let us conform to the probable one in which it was passed." So what did the Founding Fathers think about the right to bear arms?
Alexander Hamilton made it clear when he wrote in Federalist Number 28: "If circumstances should at any time oblige the government to form an army of any magnitude that army can never be formidable to the liberties of the people while there is a large body of citizens, little, if at all, inferior to them in discipline and the use of arms, who stand ready to defend their own rights and those of their fellow-citizens. This appears to me the only substitute that can be devised for a standing army, and the best possible security against it, if it should exist."
Patrick Henry, in a speech before the Virginia Ratifying Convention in 1778, cautioned the assembly saying, "Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are ruined....The great object is that every man be armed. Everyone who is able might have a gun."
The right to own a firearm to protect against government couldn't be clearer than Samuel Adams at the Massachusetts Ratifying Convention in 1788, "The Constitution shall never be construed to prevent the people of the United States who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms."
The banner of gun control is shouldered by those who sell guns illegally to narco-terrorists who subsequently use them to kill federal agents; by those who foster Draconian lifestyle changes to combat the mythical global warming crises while lining their pockets with gold; and by those who seek to ascend to the status of royalty, exempt from the very laws they force upon the public.
Not since the Colonists took up arms to thwart the British have we faced a greater need for an unfettered Second Amendment. The next time someone belligerently asks you the reason you need an assault weapon, look 'em straight in the eye and say, "You're the reason."

2015 Illinois Spring Session Gun Bill Introduced
Richard Pearson, Executive Director of the Illinois State Rifle Association, has alerted his membership in his weekly editorial that bills for the 2015 Spring Session are starting to be introduced.
The introduction of new bills will continue until February 27th. I have included a list of what we have so far. Committee hearings will not begin for a while. The House and Senate are out next week.
Speaking of committees, the Judiciary Criminal Committee is a tough one. The Democrat members of the House Judiciary Committee look like a firing squad for Pro-Second Amendment issues and a cheerleading squad for anti-gun issues. That is where many of our bills are likely to go, and it is also where the anti-gun bills will go. As expected, the anti-gunners are trying to pick apart the Illinois Concealed Carry law.
For those of you who thought it was over, it is not. Expect a tough Spring Session. The first batch of bills includes:

District Judge Rules Federal Interstate
Handgun Sales Ban Unconstitutional
On Wednesday U.S. District Court Judge Reed O'Connor ruled that the federal interstate handgun sales ban is unconstitutional. Breitbart News previously reported that this ban was implemented after Congress passed Gun Control Act of 1968 (GCA), which was signed into law by Lyndon Baines Johnson in the fall of 1968. The interstate sales ban bars a law-abiding resident in one state from buying a handgun from a retail gun store in another but allows interstate shotgun, rifle and tactical rifle sales to continue. According to the Firearms Policy Coalition, the ruling was the result of Fredric Russell Mance, Jr., et al. v. Eric H. Holder, Jr., and B. Todd Jones, which was backed by the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA). Judge O'Connor ruled that the ban on interstate handgun sales violated "the Second Amendment and the Fifth Amendment's Due Process Clause." The provisions of the ban are therefore unconstitutional and the "[d]efendants are enjoined from enforcing [them]." It is assumed that the Department of Justice will appeal the finding. |

Bloomberg: "No Guns for Negroes"
In what is one of the most outrageous statements made by an uber-liberal, Michael Bloomberg, speaking at the Aspen Institute last week, said cities should ban young minority males from owning guns both as an effort to reduce crime and to keep those minority males alive. According to the Aspen Times, Bloomberg justifies his race-based forcible citizen disarmament policies on the grounds that "95 percent of murders fall into a specific category: male, minority and between the ages of 15 and 25," and therefore, "Cities need to get guns out of this group's hands and keep them alive." Okay--so technically, he wants people disarmed on the basis of not only race, but of gender and age, as well. But that's okay, because it's for their own good.
David Codrea, a contributor to Jews for the Preservation of Firearm Ownership (JPFO), observed that Bloomberg, in not bothering to even try to hide his agenda of race-based disarmament, has, ironically, given gun rights advocates a powerful weapon. Bloomberg depends upon the support of those who arrogantly claim the title of "progressive" (just don't inquire too closely into where they would have us "progress" to), who in turn enjoy anointing themselves as "defenders of minorities." As gun rights advocates, we must make the cognitive dissonance of that association impossible to ignore.
JPFO has long worked to expose the racist motivation behind the history of gun control in America, the horrid evil of which is starkly and succinctly summarized in the words "No Guns for Negroes," which is also the title of a JPFO educational DVD.

Friends of the NRA Awards
$13,000 Grants to SAFER USA NFP
The Northern Illinois Friends of the NRA has awarded SAFER USA's sister organization, SAFER USA Outreach Fund NFP, three grants totaling $13,700. The IRS 501c3 not-for-profit corporation specializes in firearm safety education for non-traditional shooters, specifically women, youth, minorities and persons with disabilities. The first grant is for a Crosman 8 X 24-foot Air Rifle Range and three Crosman 1077 Air Rifles. The range tent, made of ballistic material so it can be used safely indoors, is ideal for teaching youth program basic marksmanship.
The second grant was for 10 Next Level Training SIRT 110 RR Training Pistols. The trigger resettable laser pistol is identical in size and weight to a 9mm/.40 caliber Glock and can be used with any standard holster made for the Glock. Easily 95% of basic handgun marksmanship training and drawing from the holster can be done indoors using SIRT pistols. The third grant was for two Remington 870 Express 20 gauge shotguns, eleven Sig Sauer 1911 .22 caliber semi-auto pistols and eleven Ruger .22 caliber American bolt action rifles.
SAFER USA Outreach Fund NFP not only conducts training and provides speakers for organizations but also makes its expertise and equipment available to other bona fide organizations that want to conduct a non-profit training event, such as a youth camp or women's program, but lack the resources to acquire the necessary equipment. The organization has other equipment, including kitchen equipment, training aids and firearms, available for short-term use.
Established in 1990, the Friends of the NRA is a grassroots fundraising program that fosters community involvement, raises money and gives 100% of the net proceeds to qualified local, state and national shooting sports educational programs. The Friends of the NRA dinners/fundraisers are highly attended annual events with great food, silent auctions, raffles and a spirited live auction. SAFER USA Outreach Fund thanks the Friends of the NRA for their generous donation. And, as members of the board of directors for the Fox Valley Friends of the NRA Dinner held every September, we invite you to attend one of the largest fundraising dinners in the country for a great evening with like-minded friends.
