Hillary for... Oh Lord, hopefully nothing

David A. Lombardo

You have to give liberals credit for one thing-tenacity. Once they get their teeth into an issue, they never let go, damn the facts and full speed ahead. It has been said that one definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over yet expecting different results. Take, for instance, gun control.

Hillary Clinton, who has been running for president ever since Bill and Monica set the bar low enough to include her as a potential candidate, said in a CNN interview, "We cannot let a minority of people-and that's what it is, it is a minority of people-hold a viewpoint that terrorizes the majority of people."

When asked by a member of the studio audience if she thought an assault weapon ban and banning high capacity magazines would have prevented school shootings, her reply was, "Yes, I do. I do." Clinton subsequently went on to demonstrate her total lack of understanding of the subject by confusing semi-automatic firearms with fully automatic firearms. She also expressed disappointment that Congress didn't pass universal background checks in 2013. Maybe Congress should pass background checks on Secretary of State candidates. Let's face it, the woman is delusional.

Recently Clinton publicly announced that she and Bill were "dead broke" when they left the White House, citing enormous legal bills. Here's a thought: maybe if they'd been honest people, they wouldn't have had enormous legal bills? That said, the Clintons made $12.3 million their first year out of the White House. Bill has garnered over $106 million in speaking fees since leaving the White House, and Hillary gets $200,000 a speech. With a current net worth put at $100 million, Hillary told ABC's Good Morning America that she and Bill "fully appreciate how hard life is for so many Americans."

But then what can you expect from someone who, as Secretary of State, played the fiddle while the embassy in Benghazi burned and terrorists killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans?

You know, the Secretary of State-a job that grew out of the short-lived Secretary of Foreign Affairs. It's the chief diplomat of the United States; the number one person who advises the President on all matters relating to foreign issues like, well, you know, terrorists attacking an embassy in a foreign country and slaughtering Americans.

But then how can you expect a woman who's incapable of holding her own husband's attention to hold the attention of a President of the United States who really doesn't care that he had the ability to save those lonely Americans?

This is a woman who shrugged her shoulders when asked why Benghazi happened and said, "What does it matter?" Are you kidding? America doesn't leave Americans behind... well, not until this President and Secretary of State anyway.

The big question is whether or not she'll hold the attention of the American people. And if that's not a chilling prospect, consider who's going to become The First Dude. Now that I think of it, it's probably a good idea to buy McDonald's stock in anticipation of their moving back into government housing in 2016.

ISRA range set for Saturday's Brownells NRA Day

The Illinois State Rifle Association is holding its annual NRA Day at the organization's range in Bonfield, Illinois. This year the event is sponsored by popular online shooting sports supplier Brownells. The free one-day event kicks off at 10 a.m. Saturday. Everyone, of all ages, is invited and a FOID card is not required. Numerous firearm manufacturers will be displaying their latest firearms, and attendees will have the opportunity to test fire them for a small charge to defray the cost of the ammunition. There are shooting instructors on hand to assist first-time shooters. There are also events for the kids and a very popular military display featuring a wide assortment of military vehicles and equipment dating as far back as World War II. WIND radio hosts David Lombardo and Gretchen Fritz of On Target Radio, on AM560 THE ANSWER, will be there doing video interviews and posting them on the On Target Radio Facebook page for those who are unable to attend. "It is important to remember all those on the committee who spent a year planning this event. ISRA First Vice President Doug Mayhall and committee member Tim Dalan deserve special thanks. For those on the outside it may not seem like much, but it takes about 4000 volunteer hours to put this one event on," said Richard Pearson, the ISRA's executive director. The event annually draws thousands of visitors and is the organization's largest single-day event. The ISRA and its members are involved in over 250 events per year, all staffed by volunteers, including its well-known IGOLD (Illinois Gun Owners Lobby Day) march on the state capitol and the NRA ISRA Youth 3-Gun event in Sparta, Illinois. "We are looking at over 100,000 volunteer hours per year," Pearson noted.

Supreme Court apparently rules

gift purchase of firearm is legal

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in a case involving a Virginia man who could legally purchase a firearm and did so for an uncle from Pennsylvania. Even though the Pennsylvania man who ultimately bought the gun was not legally prohibited from owning a firearm and passed a background check, the Court, in a 5-4 decision, said the transfer violated federal "straw purchase" law. The ruling has resulted in confusion among federal firearm licensees (FFLs), particularly relating to gift purchases of firearms. The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) has asked the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to provide clarification on the Supreme Court's decision for its firearms retailer members. The NSSF issued a press release saying, "it is our understanding that the Supreme Court ruling does not make it illegal for a consumer to purchase firearms as gifts.  As expressly noted in the instructions on the Form 4473 for Section 11.a. Actual Transferee/Buyer:  For purposes of this form, you are the actual transferee/buyer if you are purchasing the firearm for yourself or otherwise acquiring the firearm for yourself (e.g., redeeming the firearm from pawn/retrieving it from consignment, firearm raffle winner). You are also the actual transferee/buyer if you are legitimately purchasing the firearm as a gift for a third party [emphasis supplied]." NSSF advises retailers wanting an official clarification on how the decision will affect their business to call their ATF field office and ask for a response in writing. On the matter of purchasing a firearm as a gift, ATF recommends firearms retailers use a gift certificate. This way the person receiving the gift can redeem the gift certificate with the retailer and get exactly what he or she wants and there is no question about who is the "actual buyer of the firearm" and whether the person can lawfully possess a firearm.

Hunting on public lands at risk

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), along with other anti-hunting groups and individuals, filed a petition with the Interior Department demanding rules against hunting with traditional ammunition on public lands-one-fifth of the total land area in the U.S. The 50 page-petition is littered with junk science and fails to make the case that the use of traditional ammunition is a threat to wildlife populations or to humans that would warrant such a drastic action. Call Interior Secretary Sally Jewell today at 202-208-3181 and tell her to reject this scientifically baseless petition from HSUS to ban traditional ammunition. Let the Department of the Interior know that requiring the use of alternative, non-lead ammunition is nothing more than a back-door way to ban hunting by raising the price of participating in an American sporting tradition. Make sure to tell them there is no sound science to support banning traditional ammunition that has been used by hunters for centuries. There is absolutely no adverse wildlife population impact that warrants such a drastic measure. There is no evidence that consuming game taken with traditional ammunition poses a health risk to hunters and their families.

Charity Navigator pulls HSUS rating

Charity Navigator, the nation's largest and most-utilized evaluator of charities, has stripped the rating of HSUS and other animal rights groups and replaced them with a "Donor Advisory" warning. Charity Navigator rates organizations from one to four stars, with four being the highest rating possible. According to Charity Navigator, a "Donor Advisory" means that "serious concerns have been raised about this charity which prevents the issuance of a star rating." The move comes after Feld Entertainment, Inc., operator of the Ringling Brothers Circus, recovered $15.75 million in attorney fees from HSUS and their codefendants. Charity Navigator explains on their site that they take no position on the allegations made or issued by third parties. They follow that with, "However, Charity Navigator has determined that the nature of this/these issue(s) warrants making this information available so that donors may determine for themselves whether such information is relevant to their decision whether to contribute to this organization."
