Heckler & Koch has introduced its new VP9. The 9mm pistol features a trigger with a short, light take-up and solid break followed by a short positive reset. Almost like a single-action trigger in its precision. The VP9 grip can be customized to fit any shooter by using a mix of three interchangeable backstraps and six grip panels - allowing for 27 unique grip configurations. A new feature that all shooters will love is small "charging support" inserts that make manipulating the slide much easier. The pistol also has a safer and easier disassembly process than our competitors. MSRP: $719.

Thought for the week

People sleep peacefully in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

George Orwell

In the wake of a second mass shooting at Fort Hood and more recently a stabbing-and-shooting rampage in California, self-defense with firearms again is a media topic. One of the best-kept secrets in the United States is how often and how effectively ordinary citizens defend themselves with firearms against criminal threat or attack. The second edition of Thank God I Had a Gun: True Accounts of Self-Defense revises and expands on the first edition with additional stories. It lifts the veil surrounding the defensive uses of guns by recounting in detail 17 of these incidents. Thank God I Had a Gun is available at bookstores or from Privateer Publications for $19.95 plus $5 for shipping.

What happens in Vegas

doesn't always stay in Vegas

David A. Lombardo

When Jerad and Amanda Miller assassinated two on-duty Las Vegas cops in a restaurant, they weren't patriots; they were cowardly, sociopathic, delusional idiots. Amanda Miller shot Igor Soldo in the back as he was refilling a soft drink-I'll bet that took a lot of moral courage-then the two of them opened fire on Alyn Beck, who was sitting at the table eating lunch. The fact that they shouted, "The revolution is about to start," doesn't give credence to their stupidity. These are the same people that showed up at Cliven Bundy's ranch to fight federal agents and got asked to leave by Bundy for "conduct" reasons. They were such inept idiots that even the militia refused to associate with them.

After killing the two officers, the Millers stretched them out on the floor of the restaurant, draped them in a Gadsden flag-a symbol that's been adopted by the Tea Party-and put a swastika on top. Lovely, now the Tea Party movement finds itself behind the eight-ball once again. My guess is the closest either one of those two ever got to an actual Tea Party meeting might have been as janitors sweeping the floor.

Kelly Fielder, a neighbor of the Millers in Las Vegas, described Jerad Miller as hateful toward the government and President Barack Obama, and Amanda as "a good girl who would do anything to make her man happy."

Really? I think running out on a rainy night to pick up a pizza and a six pack of beer while he's watching football constitutes doing anything to make your man happy; assassinating police officers eating lunch then a concealed carry shopper in Wal-Mart who tried to stop them, not so much.

Meanwhile the mainstream media is having a field day. Once again the Tea Party is tarred-and-feathered, and anyone who calls himself a patriot and is vocal about the state of the Obama administration is a home-grown terrorist trying to overthrow the government. And, of course, we need more gun control.

And then there is Eric Holder, the Obama administration's Torquemada, who coincidentally, just six days before the nutballs shot up Las Vegas, created a "Homegrown Terror Task Force" to combat the Tea Party specifically and patriots in general. By way of clarification, Holder said, "We face an escalating danger from self-radicalized individuals within our own borders. As the nature of the threat we face evolves to include the possibility of individual radicalization via the Internet, it is critical that we return our focus to potential extremists here at home." That translates into John Q speak as, "If you don't approve of the Obama administration and what we're doing, we're going to squash you like a bug.'

Let's get a couple of things straight.

First, two of the major things that set the United States apart from all the third world banana republics are the rule of law and free elections. Anyone that would even consider using armed force to change that process is a traitor, not a patriot, and every bit as much a part of the problem as this administration.

Second, don't let liberals redefine the term "patriot" to mean right-wing whack-jobs trying to overthrow the government. A Patriot is a person who vigorously supports their country and is prepared to defend it with their life against enemies or detractors. The definition doesn't include starting a damn war in the streets; it's about being prepared to stop a war the tyrannical government starts in the streets. Not liking the current political climate doesn't give anyone the moral, let alone legal, right to start shooting. That's not protecting the Constitution; it's destroying it.

And finally, the Democrats, including their ultra-liberal, anti-American slime-bag contingent, are not responsible for Republicans being unable to win enough seats in the Congress to thwart them.

There are almost 314 million people in the United States, of which, the U.S. census tells us, about 239 million are eligible to vote. Yet only 126 million actually cast a ballot in the 2012 election, leaving one outhouse full of voters who yawned and watched reruns of Oprah instead of heading to the polls.

Even the worst voter fraud accounts for a miniscule percentage. Republicans had better stop blaming voter fraud for losing elections and take a closer look at the message they're sending that results in 126 million people not giving a damn.

Post-Heller D.C. continues to experience

historically low homicides

In 1989 District of Columbia Mayor Marion Barry felt obligated to offer a rationalization for his city's horrific homicide rate, stating, "Outside of the killings, we have one of the lowest crime rates in the country." This week Washington's WTOP radio station filed a report highlighting just how far D.C. has come from the days when it was referred to as the nation's "murder capital." The article points out that from 1990 through 1995, the city averaged more than 430 homicides annually. In 2012 D.C. totaled just 88 homicides. Chief Cathy Lanier of the Metropolitan Police Department credited community policing tactics for the turnaround. Criminologists, sociologists and economists can debate the reasons D.C. has witnessed such a transformation, but three things are clear.  First, the District's worst years for homicide were experienced under the unconstitutional Firearms Control Regulations Act of 1975, which banned new handguns. Second, homicides, which were already trending downward, continued to plummet following the 2008 Heller decision that overturned the city's handgun ban. Third, predictions about the catastrophic outcome of recognizing Second Amendment rights for D.C. residents have been proven, in the intervening six years, to be unfounded hysterics. Today's reality is a far cry from the bleak future handgun ban supporters envisioned in the time period surrounding the Heller decision. [Source: NRA/ILA]

Schumer flubs basic American history

Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) probably shouldn't be the go-to guy for historical arguments against the individual right to keep and bear arms. The Washington Times reports that Schumer recently said Thomas Jefferson was the architect of the Bill of Rights. As the Times notes, Jefferson was overseas serving as minister to France during the Constitutional convention and the congressional debate over the Bill of Rights. Schumer can perhaps console himself that both Jefferson and a pivotal author and champion of the Bill of Rights, James Madison, had a lot in common. Jefferson and Madison were both from Virginia. Both later became presidents of the United States. And both supported the right to arms. In The Federalist, Number 46, for example, Madison said that under the Constitution, the people would retain the right to keep and bear arms for defense against tyranny. For that matter, Alexander Hamilton, from Schumer's home state, also endorsed an armed citizenry for the same reason in The Federalist, Number 29. Since his election to the Senate, Schumer has spent a considerable amount of time trying to enact gun control, in contravention of the work of men like Jefferson, Madison and Hamilton. In particular Schumer proposed to expand the Undetectable Firearms Act, expand the federal "armor piercing ammunition" law, impose assault weapon and large capacity magazine bans and expand background checks. Accused arms-smuggler gets

nearly 300,000 votes in California election

Earlier this week over 287,000 Californians cast their votes for San Francisco-area State Sen. Leland Yee in the Democratic Party's Secretary of State primary election. You might recall Sen. Yee is a long-time anti-gunner. In 2006 he received an "A+" rating from the Brady Campaign and was named to the group's so-called "Gun Violence Prevention Honor Roll." The strange thing here is not just that Yee is currently under federal indictment on arms smuggling charges (no doubt his supporters would say he is still entitled to the presumption of innocence). The votes for Yee are even more curious considering he dropped out of the race in March. Then again, maybe we shouldn't be surprised. Gun control supporters who vote for anti-gun politicians like Yee are notorious for forming their opinions on the basis of little or no factual information. Others may be so committed to their anti-gun agenda that even the facts that are brought to their attention no longer matter. Whatever else can be said for the motives of these voters, their uninformed behavior should serve as a warning. Those who still cast their ballots for pro-freedom candidates had better show up in force this November or face the prospect of even more fact-free governance. [Source: NRA/ILA]

DHS armored vehicles and helicopters

target Kalispell, MT

A Freedom Outpost article reports that last week Attorney General Eric Holder launched a domestic terrorism task force to "keep America safe," but Holder's own comments suggest what should be obvious: that the initiative is designed to target any American believed to be engaging in "dangerous" and broadly-defined extremist activity-the real threat comes from disgruntled Americans right here at home. According to Holder we should be most concerned about the danger we face from individuals within our own borders who may be motivated by a variety of other causes from anti-government animus to racial prejudice. It didn't take long for DHS to start integrating the new task force onto America's streets. Is it a coincidence that Eric Holder launches his new anti-terror agenda, and then a week later Department of Homeland Security Weapons of Mass Destruction task force teams start showing up at Liberty Movement hubs like the small town of Kalispell, Montana? As many who study the "war on terror" will agree, the apparatus implemented by the federal government to fight the phony war has been turned around on the American populace. Almost all large cities, and many smaller ones, have beefed up their armaments to ridiculous levels. Even the NY Times has noticed this phenomenon. Either DHS has information that a terrorist attack is imminent in or around rural Kalispell, Montana, or their most recent visit was designed to intimidate the populace, for their own safety, of course.
