Thought for the week
I believe there are more instances of the abridgement of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations.

Okay, this is taking Charlton Heston's famous quote a bit far. Rio Grande Custom Grips partnered with Cold Dead Hands to create three sets of Second-Amendment-supporting firearm grips (stocks) of which these Pry My Fingers are a part. Rio Grande Custom Grips manufactures a large line of revolver and 1911 grips with many types of images and mottos on them. The grips are encased in a special hard-polymer material, making them salt, oil, solvent, water, impact and abrasion resistant.

Don't mess with Texas
David A. Lombardo
Greg Abbott may be about 2500 years late, but as the attorney general for the state of Texas, Abbott is every bit as serious as King Leonidas was when he uttered, "Molon labe." You have to freely translate the laconic, ancient Greek phrase as it means so much more than the simple translation, "come and take."
"Molon Labe" is the epitome of defiance; it is the ancient Spartan equivalent of flipping the bird to Persian King Xerxes when he demanded that the Greeks surrender their weapons at the Battle of Thermopylae. It was all the more so infuriating for Xerxes because he dramatically outnumbered the Spartans, but he underestimated their resolve and the tactical advantage they held by choosing to set up their defensive position in a mountain pass. It forced the Persians to literally attack through a funnel of death.
The Spartans held Thermopylae for three days, and, though they were ultimately defeated, the Persians took heavy losses and the inhabitants of Athens had time to evacuate to the Island of Salamis. The Spartans saw it as a moral victory and went on to defeat the Persians at the Battle of Salamis that same year.
So it is with that glorious history that Texas Attorney General Greg Abbot is metaphorically flipping the bird to the Bureau of Land Management in general and to the Obama Administration specifically. The BLM announced they were going to take over about 90,000 acres of Texas land on the Red River along the Oklahoma border, land that is currently privately owned by Texans and, in some cases, has been owned for generations. We're talking people's homes and working ranches-that John Q. day-to-day life stuff-and now the Obama Administration has decided they're just going to claim it for the federal government and kick everyone off their land.
General Abbott questions the BLM's authority to take such action. In an exclusive interview with Breitbart Texas, Abbott said, "I am about ready to go to the Red River and raise a 'Come and Take It' flag to tell the feds to stay out of Texas."
Abbott has sent a strongly-worded letter to BLM Director Neil Kornze, asking for answers to a series of questions related to the potential land grab. He'd like to know under what authority the BLM can just claim privately-owned land. "The BLM's newly-asserted claims to land along the Red River threaten to upset long-settled private property rights and undermine fundamental principles-including the rule of law-that form the foundation of our democracy. Yet, the BLM has failed to disclose either its full intentions or the legal justification for its proposed actions. Decisions of this magnitude must not be made inside a bureaucratic black box," he said.
Talking with Breitbart Texas, Abbott said, "This is the latest line of attack by the Obama Administration where it seems like they have a complete disregard for the rule of law in this country...and now they've crossed the line quite literally by coming into the State of Texas and trying to claim Texas land as federal land. And, as the Attorney General of Texas, I am not going to allow this."
Abbott, ever the optimist, said he thinks he should be able to resolve this in court because "... what the BLM is doing clearly violates the law. They don't have any legal standing whatsoever to do this," Abbott said.
Uh-huh...this is going to be interesting. When exactly did legal standing ever get in the way of our current dictator? If you think the militia turned out in strength over a bunch of cows dropping paddies on top of some tortoise in Nevada, watch what happens if the feds raid 90,000 acres of privately-owned land in Texas.
The arrogance of this administration is so far beyond the pale, it's become ridiculous. It is a tinder keg waiting for a spark, and this administration is running around flipping a Zippo at anything that will burn. For the moment, the gauntlet is on the table, but in 2014 in Texas, "Molon Labe" freely translates into, "Don't mess with Texas."

Sen. Cornyn demands
Holder explain DOJ smart gun proposal
As we reported last week, Attorney General Eric Holder recently testified on Capitol Hill that the country needs to spend $2 million to study "smart" gun technology, as part of a $382 million expenditure on what the Obama administration calls gun safety. "Smart guns" is a made-up term for a conceptual firearm that incorporates technology that theoretically permits the gun to be fired only by the authorized user. Failed attempts to develop and market smart guns have been going on for years. The NRA does not oppose new technological developments in firearms; however they are opposed to government mandates that require the use of expensive, unreliable features, such as rigging a firearm so that it could not fire unless it received a signal from an electronic bracelet worn by the firearm's lawful owner (as was brought up in Holder's recent testimony). And the NRA recognizes that the smart guns issue clearly has the potential to mesh with the anti-gunner's agenda, opening the door to a ban on all guns that do not possess the government-required technology (which itself is susceptible to abuse, including the remote tracking and disabling of firearms). This week U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) sent a letter to AG Holder demanding answers about the intent of the Justice Department's exploration of this smart gun technology. The letter said, in part, "Your testimony has raised serious concerns for my constituents given President Obama's track-record of acting beyond the scope of his legal authority and your hostility to the individual right to self-defense under the Second Amendment." Feds are preparing to raid Cliven Bundy
As has been reported for the past week, hundreds of federal agents are still encamped at the Bundy Ranch, and the FAA still lists the area as a no-fly zone. I said it last week, and I'll say it again: the feds have a very long memory, and they're not as stupid as you might like to believe. They performed a tactical move aimed at restoring the tactical advantage they lost when vastly more people showed up to support the Bundys. To think the Bureau of Land Management would somehow change their mind and go home is folly. In an interview with the Ben Swann radio show, Sheriff Richard Mack of the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association said he has intelligence from inside the BLM, and it's saying the feds are mounting a raid on the Bundy ranch and on the homes of all his children on that property. Mack also substantiated that the BLM's retreat was nothing more than a ploy to get the hundreds of militia members to go home. He estimated there were between 600 and 800 protesters present last Saturday as federal agents released Bundy's cattle. "If they do that kind of raid, I don't believe there's any way that could happen without bloodshed," Mack told Swann. [Source: Savingourfuture.com]

Judge decides household tools are assault weapons
Only a liberal would bring pliers to a gunfight. That's effectively what happened when U.S. District Judge Robert Dow, Jr., dismissed a complaint filed on behalf of a Chicago teacher who was suspended for bringing a household toolbox to class for a lesson about tools. In rejecting the complaint, the judge said officials at Washington Irving Elementary School correctly defined the tools as "weapons." Chicago teacher Douglas Bartlett was suspended for four days for bringing tools to class as a visual aid. Bartlett, a 17-year veteran educator, brought the tools to show his second-grade class; any potentially dangerous tools were kept out of the hands of students. Along with wrenches, pliers and screwdrivers, Bartlett displayed a pocketknife and box cutter, showing his students how those tools are properly used. When the tools were not being used, they were stored in a locked box on a shelf that even an adult could not reach without using a step stool. But as often happens these days, some milquetoast complained, and Bartlett was dragged into the principal's Star Chamber for sentencing. The school district charged Bartlett with "possessing, carrying, storing, or using a weapon" and "negligently supervising children, inattention to duty and repeated vagrant acts." SCI & Mossy Oak offer educator scholarships
to American Wilderness Leadership School
Mossy Oak will once again join Sables, a membership group within Safari Club International Foundation dedicated to conservation and outdoor education, to provide funding for ten educator sponsorships to SCI Foundation's professional development course for teachers at the American Wildness Leadership School (AWLS) in Jackson, Wyoming, this summer. The sponsorships will provide each recipient educator with full tuition for the hands-on, intensive, eight-day summer session as well as an additional stipend to help with travel and other incidental expenses. Mossy Oak also provides hats, lanyards, note writing pads, pens, decals, and a small backpack to each participant at all of the AWLS sessions, along with Mossy Oak shirts to all of the AWLS staff. Each year the AWLS program offers 240 teachers from around the United States and Canada college-level courses in conservation and, more specifically, the North American Model of Wildlife Management. The programs include courses in stream ecology, riparian ecology, human impacts on wildlife habitat, introduction to shooting sports and instructor certification for the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP). The program also helps educators better integrate the concepts with science, math, social studies and language arts so they can be taught both inside and outside of the classroom.
