Vero Vellini is offering a new Two-Point Adjustable Sling, constructed of quality textile webbing for long-lasting durability, proprietary closed-cell padding that slides only when you need it to and reinforced-nylon buckles. All sling components are synthetic, so there is no possibility of corrosion. Quickly, quietly and easily transition from a comfortable inverted-high-chest-carry position to any shooting position simply by pulling out on the tethered-loop-release buckle to release the tension on the sling and moving the firearm into position. It can be attached on either end to a 1-inch or larger sling swivel, or it can be wrapped around a standard collapsible AR-style stock. It allows more than 24 inches of adjustment for wearing the firearm over anything from a T-shirt to body armor plus several layers of clothing.

London gunmaker John Rigby & Co. has finally unveiled its latest creation, a bolt-action rifle appropriately named The Big Game. As one of the oldest gun makers in the world, the cult brand recently enjoyed a renaissance after joining forces with its old German ally, Mauser. The Big Game is built on the Magnum Mauser action, which is based on the classic model 98 design. It is available in a single or double square bridge version, .416 and .450 Rigby calibers, and is designed for express sights only. The action is fitted with the classic three-position flag safety and 22" barrel. Overall weight, unloaded, is 10 lbs., 8oz.; stock length is 14 1/2" including a rubber recoil pad. The Double Square Bridge model is produced in .375 H&H and .416 Rigby calibers, and with a 24" lightweight barrel, this rifle is ideally suited for use with a telescopic sight. MSRP with Grade 5 wood begins at $13,558.

Hatsan has introduced an affordable, high quality youth airgun called the Alpha Youth airgun. At just over five pounds, measuring 37.8-inches, it is an ideal first gun for young shooters. It features an easy-to-use cocking barrel that has a length of pull of 13 inches, requires only 14 pounds of cocking force and shoots Hatsan's high-density pellets at about 495 fps. The Alpha is available in .177cal in both black synthetic (MSRP $99.99) and Muddy Girl Camouflage (MSRP $129.99).

The Second Shot Heard Around the World?

David A. Lombardo

In North Haven, Connecticut, 130 miles southwest of Concord, Massachusetts, and almost 240 years later, the metaphorical second shot heard around the world may have been fired for almost the same reason. An increasingly tyrannical government-in this particular instance, the State of Connecticut- is trying to destroy the arms of its citizens.

About a year ago John Cinque-a military veteran who recognizes gun registration has always throughout history lead to gun confiscation, and a disarmed citizen is in reality a slave-stood up to protest at a public meeting about Connecticut's admonition that all its citizens register their semi-automatic rifles and high capacity magazines. Various sources estimate that as many as 100,000 Connecticut gun owners technically became felons overnight because they chose not to comply with the registration requirement.

During the meeting Cinque asked lawmakers if the bill would have done anything to prevent the Sandy Hook massacre. Eventually Connecticut State Rep. David Yaccarino (R) replied, "Maybe not."

Cinque went on to ask what the state plans to do with residents who "will not comply with this law."

"That's up to you, that's your right," Yaccarino said. "As far as Sandy Hook, we don't know if it would've or wouldn't have, but we also have an obligation to do our best to protect public safety." That's when Cinque went off, causing the room to erupt in applause.

"I'm a 30-year public servant, 20-year career fireman, okay? United States Navy veteran, upstanding citizen all my life, three children-and with the stroke of a pen from the ivory tower with the gold top, you've decided to create me to be a felon. A class D felony for doing absolutely nothing wrong."

He also warned lawmakers that gun control advocates would not simply stop at gun registration. "You people really think they're going to stop? I'm telling you right now, I will never vote for any of you again. I'm done," he added.

And before he was done speaking, Cinque sent a message to lawmakers loud and clear: "I don't want to speak for nobody else... But I'm telling you right now, I will not comply. There you go." Apparently he isn't the only one; it has been reported that only about 15 percent of Connecticut gun owners have actually registered their firearms.

According to an article in Townhall.com, Connecticut gun owners are now calling the state's anti-gun bluff. Connecticut has issued threatening letters talking about confiscation of firearms not registered. The response has, for the most part, been, "Come and take them!"

Connecticut Carry, a pro-Second Amendment group, has issued a challenge to state officials: either enforce the law and go door-to-door and try to collect them or repeal the 2013 gun ban in its entirety. The organization points out the concept of going door-to-door to confiscate the guns of well-armed citizens "seems like a mildly insane idea..."

In the greatest irony of all, plans to literally go door-to-door to confiscate the firearms have run into a slight snag as a result of a 21-year-old college senior who asked the question, "Who will be going door-to-door to take all the guns away?" When he was informed it would be the police, the student remarked about the list of people who were in possession of what were now considered illegal firearms: "My dad's name is on the list, and he is the police chief. I see three other names on this list of family members-all cops." None of whom had complied with the law.

Within hours a list of all sworn law enforcement officers in the state of Connecticut was obtained. Comparisons of the list of gun owners who failed to comply with registration requirements and sworn law enforcement officers showed a startling figure: just over 68% of Connecticut cops had failed to register firearms according to the new law. Uh, that's going to make it a tad bit difficult to get cops to go door-to-door, since they'd have to stand on both sides of that door.

So now Connecticut legislators are in a bit of a quandary. They've made all kinds of threats, but there is no one to follow through on those threats. So it appears that a year ago, John Cinque may well have fired the first round in a new revolutionary war.

All I can hope for is that the flame of patriotism that ignited over 200 years ago in that very part of our country will be fanned and spread out across this great nation. Elections are coming; elections have consequences. For the sake of our country, this time let the consequences fall on the heads of those who would deny us our Constitutional rights.

Remington to increase capacity

with Alabama plant

This is a classic example of how not checking facts before writing can blow up in your face. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is crowing that, despite what conservatives want you to believe, no jobs are being lost in New York to Remington's moving out of state, and he's right thanks to bloggers who shoot-from-the-lip. The fact is the oldest gun maker announced this week it will build a factory in Alabama employing 2,000 people. Bloggers seized upon that announcement, tied it to a comment made by Cuomo (D-NY) a month ago in which he said, "...extreme conservatives who are right-to-life, pro-assault-weapon, anti-gay, have no place in the state of New York," and drew their own conclusion. The comment is true; Remington is going to build a 500,000-sq-ft factory in Alabama that will eventually employ 2,000 people, but the company has no plans to close its Ilion, New York, facility where it's been since 1816. Despite recent Draconian New York gun legislation, some of which directly affects Remington, the company stands by its statement, "Remington will not run or abandon its loyal and hard-working 1,300 employees without considerable thought and deliberation." The new plant in Huntsville would be about half the size of the one in Ilion, and production will not begin before 2015. The real story, which the bloggers missed in their haste to print something, should have been why Remington decided not to put the addition in New York but in Alabama, whose Gov. Bentley commented, "If Gov. Cuomo doesn't want hard working pro-life and pro-2nd-Amendment people in his state, we will gladly take them here in Alabama."

Ninth reverses Richards v. Prieto

The Second Amendment Foundation and The Calguns Foundation earned a significant victory today when the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals reversed and remanded the case of Richards v. Prieto, challenging the handgun carry license issuing policy of Yolo County, California, Sheriff Ed Prieto. The case was originally filed in 2009 as Sykes v. McGinness and challenged not only Yolo County's policies but Sacramento County's then-restrictive practices as well. SAF, Calguns and two private citizens, Adam Richards and Brett Stewart, continued pursuing the case against Yolo County after Sacramento County agreed to relax its policy. Plaintiffs are represented by attorneys Alan Gura and Don Kilmer. "We are confident that the win today will stand the test of time," said Calguns Foundation Chairman Gene Hoffman. The Richards case was argued at the same time, and to the same panel, that earlier decided Peruta v. County of San Diego, a similar case challenging overly-restrictive carry license policies. Yolo County and Sheriff Prieto argued that their policies were distinguishable from those struck down in Peruta, but apparently the three-judge panel unanimously disagreed. SAF's Gottlieb noted that the battle over right-to-carry laws is far from over, but the Ninth Circuit decision reaffirms that court's earlier ruling in the Peruta case and "moves the ball another step forward."

Facebook policy on firearms

Facebook has provided clarification of its policies on postings concerning firearms and agreed to provide educational messaging on its platform. The National Shooting Sports Foundation replied with, "We are in agreement that all applicable laws should be observed in the private transfer of firearms. We would have welcomed the opportunity to provide our industry's perspective, however, and regret that we were not consulted. Facebook's clarification will not affect the lawful commerce in firearm and ammunition products for NSSF members and their customers." Earlier this week Monika Bickert, head of Global Policy Management for Facebook, issued a statement: "We work hard to find a balance between enabling people to express themselves about topics that are important to them....We have strict rules about how businesses can use our advertising tools. For example, we do not permit advertising for illegal drugs, tobacco products, prescription pharmaceuticals, weapons, and several other products and services, and restrict advertising for products such as alcohol, adult products, and gaming...We will provide special in-app education on Instagram for those who search for sales or promotions of firearms. We will not permit people to post offers to sell regulated items that indicate a willingness to evade or help others evade the law. For example, private sellers of firearms in the U.S. will not be permitted to specify 'no background check required,' nor can they offer to transact across state lines without a licensed firearms dealer."

Sportsmen benefit from

President's budget request

The Bull Moose Sportsmen's Alliance applauded President Barack Obama's repeated call for full funding of the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) in his proposed FY 2015 budget. The budget calls for the full $900 million originally authorized in the Land and Water Conservation Fund Act. Funded by royalties paid by offshore oil and gas development and not American taxpayers, the LWCF has nevertheless seen its annual appropriations continue to decrease. President Obama's budget has again made clear that the promise the American government made to use these royalties to guarantee Americans' access to the outdoors must be upheld. Sportsmen must now call on Congress to take this cue from the administration and pass a budget that includes full funding for the LWCF. "LWCF dollars go to improve hunting and fishing on national wildlife refuges, national forests and conservation areas. Sportsmen have always led the fight to conserve our natural resources, and we're proud to thank the president for his budget request," said BMSA Policy Director Jared Mott. "President Obama promised that LWCF would be taken care of as part of his America's Great Outdoor initiative, and we let the administration know that we were watching. Now he has kept that promise. Congress must now pass a budget that also fully funds the LWCF at $900 million for the president to sign."
