Thought for the week

I'd rather entrust the government of the United States to the first 400 people listed in the Boston telephone directory than to the faculty of Harvard University.

The new Taurusfive-shot, concealable revolver called the View gets its name from a translucent side plate on the right side of the revolver that bares the interior mechanisms. The .38 Special is based on the Taurus Model 85, but the small-frame revolver's contoured grip and grip frame won't print when worn inside fitted clothing like most traditional carry guns. Another advantage of this new grip shape is that it sits back in the palm, reducing muzzle lift. The titanium cylinder and snub nose barrel keep the weight at about nine ounces. MSRP: $599.00

Holder: Every emperor has his enforcer

David A. Lombardo

At what point will John Q get fed up with Obama's top enforcer Eric Holder and throw the bum out? This attorney general is without question a clear and present danger to the American way of life in general and, specifically, the very fabric of the Constitution.

It was during a Senate oversight hearing when Holder was asked by Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) why one of Obama's orders did not violate the Constitution, Holder had no answer. Lee had asked Holder by what legal authority Obama suspended Obamacare's employer mandate covering companies with 50 or more employees. Holder admitted that he had no ready answer, that there were legal memos on this subject, but he could not recall what they said. This from the chief legal officer of the United States!

I'm not naïve. I know most, if not all, presidents play loose with the rules from time to time; politicians will look you in the eye and lie; and voter apathy has more to do with the woes of our country than the executive, legislative and judicial branches combined. But for heaven's sake, hasn't this guy's dedication to enforcing the Emperor's dystopian society gone far enough? What more proof does John Q need before Holder is recognized for the pathological liar he is?

This guy is so rabidly anti-gun that he devised a plan called Operation Fast and Furious to have gun stores intentionally sell firearms illegally to go to known Mexican drug cartel members who would subsequently use them to commit crimes in America, thus, in his warped mind, making the case for outlawing guns.

Under Fast and Furious, ATF Agent John Dodson was provided with a letter that ordered him to purchase semi-automatic weapons from federal firearms dealers without filling out required forms. It reportedly made the gun store owners very concerned, but it was, after all, a federal initiative.

Once the guns were acquired, Dodson sold them to illegal buyers who took them to a stash house. Dodson's request for 24-hour surveillance of the stash house was disapproved, and he and his surveillance team were ordered to stand down. Violating those orders, Dodson stayed behind. A week later when a vehicle showed up to transfer the weapons to their ultimate destination, he called for an interdiction team to move in, seize the weapons and arrest the traffickers. Again, his request was refused, and the guns disappeared without surveillance.

When Holder was caught with his fingers in a cookie jar that resulted in the death of a U.S. federal agent, he was given a pass. Holder looked into the camera and told John Q that Fast and Furious was simply a "botched" but well-intentioned operation in which the government simply "lost track" of thousands of weapons that eventually wound up in the hands of the Sinaloa cartel.

Gun control is a longstanding passion of Holder's. In 1995 he told the Women's National Democratic Club, "I've asked the school board to make a part of everyday some kind of anti-violence, anti-gun message; everyday, at every school, at every level. One thing that I think is clear with young people and with adults as well, is that we just have to be repetitive about this. It's not enough to simply have a catchy ad on a Monday and then only do it every Monday.  We need to do this every day of the week and just really brainwash people into thinking about guns in a vastly different way."

Since then Holder has sung that same song many times. He's proud of the idea of brainwashing children. He would make our youth a farm team for his idea of a more orderly world in which everyone relies upon the government for everything, and what meager rights citizens have, they owe to the largess of the president. If Congress doesn't see the idea of dumping this chump as the most obvious, logical course of action, then this once-great country will continue its slide into socialist oblivion.

Nineteen states back lawsuit

against New Jersey concealed carry law

David Drake of Feldon, New Jersey, owns an ATM business in the state. Because he deals with large sums of money, Drake applied for a New Jersey concealed carry permit but was denied. Garden State applicants must prove to police that they have a specific, justifiable need for concealed carry, usually beyond just self-defense. Drake later challenged New Jersey's "may-issue" doctrine on the grounds that it violated his Second Amendment rights, but a federal appeals court disagreed. As a result, Drake has appealed the decision to the U.S. Supreme Court. To date nineteen state attorneys general have signed a petition to put the case before the U.S. Supreme Court. "This decision out of New Jersey impacts the right to keep and bear arms outside of the home," Wyoming Governor Matt Mead wrote in a statement. "So I felt it was necessary to have the attorney general support a petition to the Supreme Court to hear this case." Other states who have voiced their support for the petition include Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota and West Virginia. Mead stated that the decision by the appeals court against Drake has wider implications than just in New Jersey.

Public gun rights image is beginning to shine

It has been a good week for those who believe in spirit of the Second Amendment. "Gun lovers are making all of the positive headlines this week. Thousands of Connecticut residents refusing to register their firearms. The Boston Globe published an article showing the ineffectiveness of gun buyback programs. The Missouri Senate advanced a bill that would nullify all federal anti-gun laws. And the NH State Legislature overwhelmingly voted against universal background checks," Alan Gottlieb, founder of the Second Amendment Foundation, wrote in his latest press release. For decades newspapers and television news have covered the U.S. with a blanket of anti-gun messages, but Gottlieb believes the years of hard work on the part of the pro-Second-Amendment public is beginning to pay off. "The balance of power is reversing, and the overall outlook on our Second Amendment Rights has never been more positive. We must continue our unrelenting pressure on the anti-gunners to get the truth about gun rights to every person in our country," he wrote. Connecticut residents have apparently disregarded the new laws there, with only 50,000 residents registering what are classified as "assault weapons." Estimates put actual ownership in Connecticut at about 350,000. The penalty for not registering is a Class D felony. Can you say "civil disobedience?"

Schumer reels after amnesty bill fails

Three weeks ago it looked like an immigration amnesty bill to create 8,000,000 new anti-gun voters was on the fast track in the U.S. House. That was before you burned up the telephone lines and internet accounts of House Republicans. At the Republican retreat dozens of congressmen lined up to oppose the bill, and Speaker John Boehner was forced to concede that Republicans could not trust Obama to implement the enforcement provisions of the bill. Now, reeling from another defeat, New York Senator Charles Schumer has threatened to file a discharge petition to force the House to consider the anti-gun bill, over Republican objections. The problem is that Schumer, to be successful, would have to convince over a dozen Republicans to openly betray their colleagues in order to garner the necessary 217 or 218 signatures (depending on the number of House vacancies). For this reason, discharge petitions almost never succeed. Mass rep to introduce new gun control legislation

Senator Edward Markey (D-Mass.) announced new efforts to combat gun violence in Massachusetts and throughout the country by introducing "The Handgun Trigger Safety Act" to ensure that only authorized users can operate handguns. Additionally Senator Markey joined with Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) to call on President Obama to commit $10 million in his budget for gun violence research. In 2013 President Obama lifted a 17-year ban on federal gun violence research, but there has been no funding specifically appropriated for the effort. Senator Markey made his announcements after participating in a community roundtable discussion. "No one wants children to get access to a handgun and hurt themselves or others," he said. "In the 21st century, we should use advances in technology to our own advantage and save lives, and the Handgun Trigger Safety Act will help ensure that only authorized users can operate handguns." The Handgun Trigger Safety Act of 2014 would, among other things, require all handguns manufactured in the United States two years after the date of enactment of the bill to be "personalized handguns."
