Dump the chumps

David A. Lombardo

I don't know about you, but I've just about had it with these self-righteous, holier-than-thou politicians who think they're smarter than those of us who actually work for a living. You know-those arrogant politicians the dead vote in. And then there are the movie, television and rock stars that are a legend in their own minds, and the rich guys who use their untold wealth to reshape the world against the will of John Q.

The most recent gasbag to flatulate his opinion is New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who said pro-Second-Amendment people are "extremists" and "have no place in the State of New York." I don't know who is worse: that idiot or the idiots that voted him into office, but then I suppose it's hardly a surprise, as it is New York, after all.

Then there is New York City's past mayor Michael Bloomberg. One of the world's richest people, Bloomberg has used millions of dollars of his own money in an attempt to change the social fabric of the United States with total disregard of the will of the public. His Mayor's Against Illegal Guns, an anti-Second-Amendment cabal consisting of a list of names that looked like a Who's Who of felons, sought to socially engineer cities across America. The problem is, as mayor of New York City, his policies resulted in a city with a violent crime record that even surpasses Chicago.

And, speaking of Chicago, there's our own Mayor Emanuel, who oversees one of the most crime-ridden cities in the United States and blames the NRA and law-abiding gun owners. Then, lest we forget, we have Cook County Board demi-god Toni Preckwinkle, another anti-Second-Amendment zealot who would rather people die in the street than be able to defend themselves.

The point is this: we have midterm election primaries coming up in March. And though I've said it many times, it bears repeating: elections have consequences. Our cities are full of socially-deviant miscreants who would like nothing better than to be assured no one has the means to defend themselves from the pariah that inhabit our streets.

Over the years there have been electoral litmus tests for conservative voters ranging from abortion to equal rights. Whatever your opinion is of any social issue, the litmus test for the upcoming elections must be the Second Amendment. Every candidate for every office, but especially congressmen and senators, governors, state's attorneys, county sheriffs, mayors and council members, should be vetted for their support of your right to responsibly own a firearm and to be able to defend yourself and your family.

As a society America is ever moving closer to the precipice over which life as we know it will end. This president, his congressional henchmen and far too many governors, mayors and councilmen, have steadily eroded our Constitutional rights in an effort to silence the conservative point of view while enslaving an ever-increasing percentage of the population under the nanny state. All this leaves me with two questions.

First, when will African Americans and Hispanics realize that liberalism isn't there to help them? The point of liberalism is to keep you in a position of reliance on government, guaranteeing you'll never succeed. You've bought into liberal gibberish for over 50 years and haven't benefitted from it one iota. If you doubt that, just take a look at Detroit, Michigan; nuff said. I suggest you run screaming away from the dark side that ensnares you and join those of us who think you have a right to be successful as a result of the fruits of your own labor.

Second, what is it going to take to convince the voting public that a pro-Second-Amendment conviction should be the voters' litmus test for the 2014 elections? Law abiding citizens have the right to keep and bear arms without government intrusion to protect themselves not simply from the sociopathic slime of the world but from a repressive government. Let's focus people: it's time to dump the chumps and vote in candidates that believe John Q knows best how to support and protect his family.

NSSF hails sportsmen's access legislation

U.S. Rep. Steve Daines (R-MT) has introduced H.R. 3962, Making Public Lands Public, a bill to expand and enhance access to public lands for hunting, fishing and recreational shooting. If passed the legislation would dedicate a portion of the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) to enhancing access on existing public lands, specifically for small parcels, easements or rights of way that open access to federal land that is inaccessible or significantly restricted. Similar legislation, introduced in both the Senate and House (S.901 and H.R.1997) in the 112th Congress, enjoyed the support of more than 40 sportsmen's organizations. "Nearly half of all hunters conduct a portion of their hunting activity on public lands, and lack of access is cited as the primary reason that hunters, anglers and target shooters stop participating in these traditional activities," said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel. "Opening access to the public lands that U.S. citizens own is not only vital to preserving America's sporting heritage, but it will also serve to benefit the economy." 2014 prediction:

Less federal but more state gun legislation

Alan Gottlieb, chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right To Keep and Bear Arms, underscored the reality that elections have consequences. Gottlieb cautions that the results of the 2014 mid-term Congressional elections will determine where the anti-gunners take their fight. "With the way the past five years have gone under this Administration, it seems farfetched for the Democrats to take over control of the House. The most likely scenarios are for the balance of power in Congress to remain the same, with the Republicans controlling the House and the Democrats Controlling the Senate. Or the Republicans could gain control in the Senate and retain control in the House. Either way would mean a tough road for new anti-gun laws to pass our U.S Congress," Gottlieb said. If Congress cannot pass gun control at the federal level, Gottlieb suggests the Obama Administration will push for new gun control at the state and municipal levels. "This is the same situation we saw in 2013. When Obama, Feinstein, Biden, Bloomberg, etc., could not get anti-gun laws forced through Congress, they took the fight to our states. We must demand every one of our state governors do not sign any more anti-gun proposals into laws. They are the last defense for our states and must protect our Second Amendment rights along with the interest of their state's citizens."

Persistent Brady Campaign gets big California win

In 1976 the Brady Campaign, then known as the National Council to Control Handguns, said that the first part of its three-part plan to get handguns and handgun ammunition made "totally illegal" was to "slow down the increasing number of handguns being produced and sold in this country."  This month, anti-gunners finally got that wish in California. America's two largest handgun manufacturers-Smith & Wesson and Sturm, Ruger & Co.-have announced that they will stop selling new semi-automatic handguns in California rather than comply with the state's "microstamping" law.  The law applies not only to entirely new models of handguns but also to any current-production handgun, approved by the state's Roster Board, if such handgun is modified with any new feature or characteristic, however minor or superficial. According to a Los Angeles Times article, the law was "intended to help police investigators link shell casings found at crime scenes to a specific gun."  That's pure spin, however. In reality the law, signed in 2007 by then-Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, is intended to terminate semi-automatic handgun sales and, over time, semi-automatic handgun ownership in the state.  "Microstamping" will solve few, if any, crimes, and it is only a matter of time before a proposal to expand the law to include other firearms will follow. Meanwhile the National Shooting Sports Foundation has joined ranks with the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers' Institute to file suit against the law in Fresno Superior Court, "seeking both declaratory and injunctive relief against this back-door attempt to prevent the sale of new semiautomatic handguns to law-abiding citizens in California." Supreme Court begins debate

over straw purchasing case

A January 22nd article in Guns.com related the plight of a Virginia man who bought a handgun for his uncle and ended up with five years' probation for doing so. Bruce Abramski, Jr.'s case, Abramski v. United States, has found its way to the U.S. Supreme Court and could turn out to be a landmark decision on how the federal government interprets "straw buyers." Abramski used cash and his expired Roanoke Police force credentials to purchase a Glock 19 at a local police supply shop. Two days prior to that purchase, he had been sent a $400 check from his elderly uncle in Pennsylvania for the gun. Finally, on Nov. 21, after depositing the check, Abramski transferred the gun through a Pennsylvania FFL holder to his uncle, who was not barred from legally owning it in the state. Abramski's uncle had wanted to make sure that everything was legal in the exchange and consulted with no less than three different FFL holders for information before the transfer occurred. Where Abramski torpedoed himself was when he bought the gun in Virginia and answered "Yes" on ATF Form 4473, the well-known "yellow form" that is filled out with any gun purchase from an FFL holder, to the question of "Are you the actual transferee/buyer of the firearm(s) listed on the form?" By answering "Yes" to a question on the ATF yellow form and receiving money before the sale, the government contended that Abramski broke the law.
