Obamacare-a rousing success

David A. Lombardo

I find it mildly amusing that everyone continues to refer to Obamacare as a train wreck and a failure. Certainly the Affordable Health Care Act is far from affordable and the term "health care" is an oxymoron when it comes to Obamacare. You remember the messiah looking the camera in the eye, with his chin imperiously cocked upward reminiscent of Mussolini, and reassuring all Americans, "If you want to keep your own doctor, you can keep him. If you want to keep your insurance policy, you can keep it." I had to laugh when I read in the paper earlier this week that he apologized to the people who've lost their health insurance and never mentioned that "keep your own insurance" thing.

What did you expect-a real health care plan? The Affordable Health Care Act has never been about healing the sick or making health care more affordable. It's always been yet another cover-up for the implementation of a far more ominous plan-the implementation of a fascist government controlled by social progressives, a country in which everyone is beholden to a small, select group of individuals who have total and unaccountable power over the populous.

Everything that has transpired to date has promulgated that philosophy from the unelected and unaccountable czars to virtually every policy. When the Congress doesn't support it, the White House does an end run with Executive Orders or opinions by the Attorney General or dark-of-the-night implementation of unpopular policies. It's okay to call those who want to pull the plug on Obamacare terrorists. It's okay to run up the national debt to the point of destroying the American economy. It's okay to kill Americans using drones overhead. It's okay to record every telephone call and email from every American citizen. It's okay to use the IRS to harass those who disagree. It's okay to ban all firearms despite Congress' and American citizens' objections. It's okay to arm drug cartels and Al Qaida terrorists, and on and on.

Obamacare is a raging success. It's economically ruining the wealthy, small business owners and the middle class by syphoning off all profit and making them dependent upon the government. It's killing off every decent-paying job by forcing businesses to shed full-time employees. And what's one of the intended goals of this? Seventy-five percent of the donations to the GOP are from small businesses; hence squeeze out every last dollar so there are no more donations to Republicans. Without donations a political party dries up and blows away.

Obamacare has added thousands of new IRS agents; it has access to every facet of your life from your bank account to your medical records. It provides for agents of the government to go into your home to check up on you, to make decisions about your parenting, to determine whether or not you deserve life-saving medical treatment and even to dig into your sexual history.

But it gets better. Obamacare unionizes millions of healthcare workers, bringing in more than $15 billion in new union dues, and guess where that money goes? You got it-into Democratic coffers. Call me paranoid, but it sounds to me like fertile ground for controlling the population, silencing anyone who doesn't toe the party line and assuring that, going forward, only approved social progressives will ever be in the position to make decisions. You know, just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get me.

Veep cut from gun control initiative bad news

In an October 28th Politico article, writer Reid Epstein explains why President Obama has sidelined Vice President Joe Biden and Biden's chief of staff Bruce Reed on the gun control issue. One might be inclined to think it was about removing ineptitude. You may recall he said on television he told his wife to take the family shotgun and fire it into the air if she ever felt threatened. "Buy a shotgun, buy a shotgun," he said. Of course when someone took his advice, the poor sap was arrested. One wonders if Biden will be his witness in court. But ineptitude notwithstanding the backstory is Obama has actually stepped up his meetings with gun control groups but has changed focus. He realizes he can't get gun control measures through Congress because the public doesn't want it. For instance, the background checks bill he championed in the Senate isn't going to get another vote, after falling short in April, unless several senators publicly change their minds. So he is now initiating a two-front war on firearms: pressuring state legislatures to pass stronger gun control and developing local area networks to elect anti-personal-protection legislators to Congress.

Tech company to tackle gun violence

through technology

Entrepreneur Jim Pitkow announced he will spearhead an effort to engage innovators across the globe in finding technological solutions to reduce gun violence. Through the Smart Tech Foundation, leaders in the tech industry have pledged at least $1 million in grants for the first Challenge. The Challenge series will incentivize new, early stage, and experienced innovators to accelerate the development and availability of products to prevent and better respond to gun-related injuries and death. The first of these Challenges, Smart Tech for Firearms, requests proposals that focus on technology for a firearm that reliably authorizes approved users and blocks unauthorized users.  Innovators can submit proposals at one of three stages: with a design only, with a prototype of smart technology not yet applied to a firearm, or with a prototype of technology already applied to a firearm. The Challenge provides opportunities for innovators to put their technologies to the test against rigorous standards and to meet with investors, collaborators and experts in the process. "Today we announced a Challenge to address gun violence through the strategic application of private sector momentum and competitive incentives," said Pitkow, board member for Smart Tech Foundation. "Together we can harness entrepreneurial energy that will inspire new thinking to propel safety, social well-being, and a responsible industry forward. We believe we can solve market failures and inspire a new wave of ingenuity that can save lives."

Congressional sportsmen push

to restore sportsmen trust

In an effort to exempt vital sportsmen trust funds from budget sequestration, the bipartisan Senate leadership of the Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus (CSC) sent a letter to Sylvia Burwell, Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), requesting that the $50 million sequestered from the Wildlife Restoration, Sport Fish Restoration and Boating Safety Trust Funds in 2013 be returned to the states. In bipartisan fashion CSC Senate Co-Chairs, Kay Hagan and John Thune, and Senate Vice-Chairs, Mark Pryor and James Risch, signed on to the letter, requesting the OMB release the sequestered sportsmen trust funds that are derived from excise taxes levied on guns and ammunition, fishing tackle and equipment, motorboat fuel, and bows and arrows. The trust funds are the foundation of the unique American System of Conservation Funding, a "user pays-public benefits" program. This user-pay funding strategy has produced numerous public benefits including: abundant fish and wildlife populations, access to public lands and clean waters, improved fish and wildlife habitat, improved soil and water conservation, shooting ranges, and boating access facilities.

New York ammo background checks

delayed indefinitely

The New York State Police announced that there will be no background checks on ammunition sales until a system exists to handle them. When New York's SAFE Act was passed into law earlier this year, one of its key provisions called for background checks on ammunition buyers. Lawmakers originally planned to implement this provision on January 15, but it has now been delayed indefinitely by state police officials. According to The Buffalo News, this is because the state police currently have no system capable of handling this part of the SAFE Act. The law requires all ammunition sellers in the state to register with the New York State Police as well as submitting customers to a background check similar to those wishing to buy a firearm. However, the ammunition background check system will be kept separately and will not be connected to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), reported the New York Daily News. Additionally, ammo retailers will have to keep records of their customers, including name, age, occupation, residence and how much ammo they purchased. This information can be made available to law enforcement.
