Allegiance Ammunition is offering its PowerStrike lead-free frangible ammunition components. The 50 round, vacuum-sealed packages are available in 9mm (90 grain) or 5.56/.223 (52 grain) projectiles. PowerStrike is designed to penetrate light barriers such as glass, wood, heavy clothing, and bone. When it hits softer, fluid filled tissue, it will break into lethal minute particles creating a wider wound cavity, resulting in severe shock trauma to the central nervous system of the soft target," says Jeff Mullins, Allegiance Ammunition CEO "These bullets are ideal for self-defense, LE and hunters because of the performance enhancements with powder metal technology."

If you're not a member of the ISRA you're freeloading

David A. Lombardo

What the heck ever happened to the "Ask not what your country can do for you; but ask what you can do for your country" mentality?

Unless you've been bent over with your nose to the ground looking for spent casings for the past several months, you know the fierce battle that's been going on in the State capital. It's been so out of control and over the top that Democrats are eating each other in the melee.

Illinois gun owners, all 1.5 million or so, are in the fight of their Second Amendment lives with a hostile, anti-gun state legislature. Getting a concealed carry bill passed went down literally to the 11th hour and took the form of a bill no one really liked and the governor is almost certain to answer with an amendatory veto - perhaps a statewide assault weapon ban.

Now, due to a clause in the proposed legislation that will prevent the enactment of future assault weapon bans throughout the state, every two-bit town that never gave a flying fig about an assault weapons ban is lining up their ducks to enact an ordinance before the bill becomes law.

So here's the trivia question of the week - Of the 1.5 million firearm owners in Illinois, who's actually going into battle daily to stave off the Hun at the gate and protect your Second Amendment rights in Illinois?

Sure, there are a number of lobbyists fighting the good fight in Springfield, but all are defending their own agenda such as the special interests of the specific firearms manufacturer that's paying them.

Even the NRA's lobbyist is here representing the interests of the National Rifle Association whose eye never wanders too far from the national political implications. If some particular quirk in a bill turns up that pits local verses national interests the NRA would throw Illinoisans under the bus in favor of the big picture.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a benevolent life member of the NRA and I'm not grousing about their roll but as an Illinois gun owner my single question is who's solely looking out for the Second Amendment interests of those of us whose zip codes start with the number six and the answer is the four professional lobbyists from the Illinois State Rifle Association.

Richard Pearson, the ISRA's Executive Director and chief lobbyist, and his team of three lobbyists bust their butts day-in and day-out. They're in there fighting the good fight with only a single goal: Protect the Second Amendment rights of Illinois citizens including those that aren't fast enough to out-stuff the ballot boxes in Cook County and the City of Chicago.

And the ISRA isn't solely focused on Springfield. The organization keeps its finger on the pulse of every municipality and government entity throughout the state. It sounds a rallying cry every time some liberal whack-job politician attempts to enact a local anti-personal protection ordinance and pro-personal protection folks rush into the little town hall to stave off the effort.

When it comes to putting their money where their mouth is, it's the Illinois State Rifle Association that spends most of the time and money challenging anti-Second Amendment ordinances in court all over the state.

The ISRA was formed in 1903 primarily as a Civilian Marksmanship Training organization, and has morphed into one of the most powerful Second Amendment state organizations in the country. They're the prime sponsor of IGOLD, offer extensive firearms education and safety training all over the state, and have been deeply involved in such cases as DC v Heller, McDonald v Chicago, Wilson v Cook County challenging the assault weapons ban, Ezell v Chicago seeking to overturn the Chicago ban on shooting ranges and much more. If you don't recognize the names, you're part of the problem.

Excuse me, but all that's being supported by 28,000 dues paid members. Let me say that one more time. In a state with 1.5 million gun owners only 28,000 are intelligent enough to pay $25 to support the only organization 100% dedicated to protecting their right to keep and bear arms. If you're not a member and you own a firearm, you're a leech living off the roughly two-percent of Illinois gun owners who passed on one night's dinner at Portillo's and spent the $25 on a membership to the ISRA instead.

ISRA cautions against

mounting assault weapon bans in suburbs

"The recently passed CCW Bill, HB-183 (as amended) contains a provision to allow local governments to retain bans on semi-auto firearms or to enact new bans within 10 days of HB-183 becoming law if signed by the governor or if it passes into law," Mike Weisman, ISRA 2nd Vice President, said. "As a result of this, ISRA has received word of several communities holding special city council meetings, or adding items to their agenda to consider this.  In towns that never had such a ban in their ordinances before or never felt the need for it, some municipal leaders suddenly feel compelled, spurred to action by messages sent from Lt Gov. Sheila Simon and local representatives." What's at stake? According to Weisman, your right to defend yourself and your family with effective tools as the firearm that you already own can be impacted by an assault weapons ban. The basic version of this ban usually includes the most popular civilian semi-auto rifle, the AR-15.  Weisman cautions it is important that members stay vigilant of what's going on in their communities with regards to this issue.  Please inform the ISRA if you hear about special meetings or agenda items. [Source: Illinois State Rifle Association]

CCRKBA - support Kelly measure

to restrict ATT funding

The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is encouraging gun owners to support an effort by Congressman Mike Kelly (R-PA) to restrict funding related to the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) in the National Defense Authorization Bill (HR 1960). "Gun prohibitionists know the treaty hasn't even been signed yet by the United States," noted CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. "They also know it has slim chance of being ratified by the Senate, but here they are, already trying to grab taxpayer dollars to essentially enforce conditions of a treaty we're not going to adopt." The Kelly Amendment simply states, "None of the funds authorized to be appropriated by this Act or otherwise made available for fiscal year 2014 or any fiscal year thereafter for the Department of Defense may be obligated or expended to implement the Arms Trade Treaty, or to make any change to existing  programs, projects, or activities as approved by Congress  in furtherance of, pursuant or, or otherwise to implement the Arms Trade Treaty, unless the Arms Trade Treaty has been signed by the President, received the advice and consent of the Senate, and has been the subject of implementing legislation by the Congress."

Hunter Safety System social media hacked

"Recently, you may have observed some objectionable content coming from the Hunter Safety System Facebook and Twitter pages. On Tuesday morning, hackers compromised our accounts, locked out our page administrators and then began posting the objectionable content," Hunter Safety System Marketing Manager Nick Andrews, said. "First and foremost, we want to offer our sincerest apologies to you, your family and friends who were subjected to that content." The press release goes on to say "We have built Hunter Safety System on the principles of wholesome family morals and a commitment to our faith. We do not compromise our standards and are glad to be back sharing these with all our fans. We truly value the 300,000 people who stuck with us and offered support over the last week and offer our thanks to the hundreds who contacted us to offer assistance. We are proud of our pro-staff members who have reached out to inform our community of our struggles when our voice was taken. We are blessed with the strategic partnerships we have forged with other companies, which leveraged their power when we needed it most. It humbles us to know that this community is willing to help out however needed. Thank you!"

British poll eschews handgun ban

Alan Gottlieb, Chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, points out the results of a recent British newspaper poll asking readers which of six suggested measures they would like to see introduced in the House of Commons, 86 percent of the more than 20,400 respondents to the on-line poll were in favor of repealing the 1997 handgun ban. The next highest vote getter is a suggested measure on the "greening of public spaces" followed by a proposal to ban spitting. The flat tax comes in fourth on the priority scale with a scant 6.4 percent of the votes, and limiting the Prime Minister's terms could not even muster two percent support among respondents. Parliament adopted the handgun ban following the tragic 1997 Dunblane massacre of school children; an incident that created an aftermath of emotion not unlike our own Sandy Hook tragedy. Law-abiding British citizens were forced to surrender their handguns as some sort of panacea, but violent crime in the United Kingdom has actually gone up, and self-defense with a firearm has gotten people in considerable trouble.
