Broadsword Group has added the legendary Sharps Rifle Company to its portfolio. The purchase means fresh capital, a new management team and a rededication to the spirit of innovation. Today, Sharps is helmed by individuals with years of hands-on experience with the company who bring the utmost in passion and integrity to their work. Broadsword Group is by no means a newcomer to the firearms industry. Prior to the purchase of Sharps Rifle, the company already owned Spencer Rifles, SRC ARMS and A-Square. In addition, SRC ARMS has developed the powerful and reliable 25-45 Sharps cartridge, which was designed with the Modern Sporting Rifle platform in mind.

J.P. Sauer & Sohn is offering the new Sauer 101, a bolt action rifle, in the mid-class price range. The heart of the safety system is known as the "Dura Safe" concept. The Sauer 101 has the only direct firing pin safety in the world that is engaged by an ergonomically perfect slide built into the bolt shroud. The intelligent placement of an integral detent button effectively prevents inadvertently taking the S 101 off safe, yet the "Dura Safe" can be disengaged instinctively and in complete silence right before the shot.

Editorial: Protecting our rights is

apparently too much trouble

David A. Lombardo

Our society is geared toward instant gratification and the single most common complaint is it isn't fast enough. The only thing worse than the fact we have a population of attention deficit disorder adults is the fact society has convinced them their right.

Countless people are telling me how tedious it's become with respect to Illinois concealed carry and gun ban issues. I always manage to muster up the strength to avoid my slapping the snot out of the individual, sometimes metaphorically; sometimes not so metaphorically. I thought I'd become the magnet for that type of complaint until I read Richard Pearson's email blast this week; turns out he's getting much of the same. Pearson is the Executive Director of the Illinois State Rifle Association and one of their lobbyists in Springfield.

He recently wrote, "Just today I had a member call me and ask how much longer the ISRA was going to pester him to call his legislators about gun control bills. My answer was, 'Until we win."

Pearson continued, "...what we are engaged in is nothing less than a good old fashioned street fight.  This is the kind of fight where - in the end - one guy goes home while the other guy gets carted away in a box.  If you and your fellow gun owners do not stand up for what you believe in, your gun rights will be carted away and dumped on the scrap heap of liberties sacrificed in the name of political and social 'progress," he said.

There is a fundamental misunderstanding about what's happening both in the Illinois State Legislature and in Congress. This fight has nothing to do with logic or facts; it is strictly about implementing a new social order. Modern American liberalism is about a strong federal government that takes care of the individual from cradle to grave. But it isn't as rosy as it might seem. It seeks to reduce, if not totally eliminate, the right of the individual to determine what's best for him and replace it with a nanny state.

Under modern American liberalism, anything that fundamentally enslaves the individual to the government is good. It is faulty logic that espouses the principle that socially deviant miscreants are misunderstood and have more rights than law abiding citizens who take personal responsibility. And a very significant portion of that philosophy says citizens should not have the right to defend themselves against anything and particularly not against an ever increasing ruling class who seek to take away individual rights.

Someone took me to task, on theological grounds, for referring to our current president as the messiah; I'm being blasphemous in their opinion. I refer to the president with the lower case messiah who is, by definition, "A savior or liberator of a group of people."

It is not a reference to theology but sociology and this president is precisely that to the modern American liberal. Obama and his four horsemen of the apocalypse are sociopaths skilled in the art of deception. They put their finger in the wind of public opinion, change their verbiage to make it as acceptable as possible to as many people as possible, but their goals never waiver.

In our small corner of society their goal is total disarmament: Everything, every rifle, shotgun and handgun even as they themselves own them because they see themselves as above the rest of society.

So the next time you want to whine about getting so many emails, letters and calls for active participation in contacting your elected officials about gun control issues, stop and consider you are falling prey to exactly what they are hoping for. They want ADD to get the best of you so you'll quit complaining. They want you to join them as latte-drinking, sushi-eating, Volvo-driving, New York Times-reading, body- piercing, Hollywood loving, left-wing freakazoids and forget about clinging to your guns and bible. When that happens, brother, you can kiss conservatism and self-reliance goodbye forever.

Law firm claims

faulty trigger on Remington 700

Houston-based Lanier Law Firm is stirring up the ashes of the Remington 700 controversy. In a recent press release the law firm said, "Based on more than two dozen deaths and hundreds of injuries related to a faulty trigger mechanism used in the Remington Model 700 rifle, attorneys from The Lanier Law Firm are investigating potential claims for those who have been injured or whose family members have been killed by the dangerous firearm." The release cites the 2010 CNBC report "Remington Under Fire: A CNBC Investigation" however Remington refuted the issues and in testing were unable to duplicate the cited problems. Internet blogs swelled with commentary regarding how the CNBC report was rigged and used tactics intended to result in apparently accidental discharges. Lawsuits, filed against Remington over the Model 700, cite the Walker Fire Control system's ability to fire without a trigger pull under varying conditions. Remington Arms issued a statement at the time saying the Model 700 has been free of any defect since it was first produced.

DOJ solicits proposals

to improve background checks

The U.S. Department of Justice is seeking applications to implement data sharing that will improve the effectiveness of background checks for the purchase of firearms. The program is designed to further the Department's mission by preventing and deterring acts of violent crime perpetrated through the use of illegally purchased firearms by enhancing the reliability and accuracy of the nation's background check process. The solicitation includes two funding categories with unique eligibility requirements. BJA may elect to make awards for applications submitted under this solicitation in future fiscal years, dependent on the merit of the applications and on the availability of appropriations. Deadline to register is May 13th and may be made through Grants.gov. For technical assistance with submitting an application, contact the customer support hotline at 800-518-4726, 606-545-5035, or via e-mail to support@grants.gov. Sphinx Denies Deployment of

Firearms Tracing Technology

Sphinx Arms denies information stating that it has developed and deployed a new tracing technology powered by Nano-Particles and confirms that this system is not deployed in any of its firearms. Interlaken - Sphinx Arms denies the information provided during a segment of the Swiss National Television's news, wrongly stating that it had developed a ground-breaking technology to be used for firearms and ammunition tracing. This technology has been developed by Nano-ID Security Systems, a Swiss based company, which has requested Sphinx Arms to test and evaluate this technology only in conjunction with a project for sensitive material tracing and authentication in Switzerland. One of the key features of this technology is to prevent alterations or defacing of serial numbers. Sphinx Arms confirms that no identification solution has been deployed and will not be deployed in any of its firearms produced and exported to countries out of Switzerland, unless mandated by law from a sovereign country or state. Sphinx Arms is a small arms manufacturer based in Interlaken, Switzerland.

Hunters weigh in on proposed assault legislation

Three out of four hunters support background checks with reasonable exceptions for all gun sales according to a national poll of America's hunters conducted by the Bull Moose Sportsmen's Alliance. The poll also highlights a significant concern among hunters regarding loss of farmland, ranches and habitat for fish and wildlife. In addition, the poll highlights that 94 percent of hunters hold a genuine concern that they are not making their voices heard in Washington. "The poll shows that sportsmen's passion for the rod and gun is equally matched by a passion for conservation. They also care deeply about ensuring that the outdoor opportunities we enjoy today will be enjoyed by future generations of sportsmen," said Gaspar Perricone, Co-Director of the Bull Moose Sportsmen's Alliance. "Now, more than ever, we need to get involved in decision-making processes at the state and national level on the issues we care about most." The bipartisan poll, conducted by Public Opinion Strategies and Global Strategy Group, surveyed 800 hunters nationally and asked a variety of questions about the importance of conservation, access to hunting and fishing opportunities, federal funding for public lands, the federal deficit and also asked hunters' opinions on gun issues being debated across the country.
