Glock: How do you say

"Bah Humbug" in Deutsche?

David A. Lombardo

It's not going to be a Merry Christmas in the Glock family compound. Glock USA released a terse statement this week regarding Gadson Glock's son Robert.

"Mr. Robert Glock is not employed by, does not hold any position of authority, has no ownership in, and is not associated with the Glock Group in any manner. He is not authorized to speak for the Glock Group on any subject. His public statements either in the press, or otherwise, are expressions of his opinion and not that of the Glock Group."

I'm guessing Bob isn't going to be part of the Glock family Christmas present exchange this year but then neither will his siblings. Robert, Gaston Jr. and Brigitte were all were fired from Glock, Inc. by patriarch Gaston in 2010 and now, in order, own a restaurant, a hunting and shooting apparel business, and pet shop. Bob, Gaston Jr, and Brigitte may not see one another at Christmas dinner but they'll be gathering together with their mother in court.

Gaston's three kids are from his former marriage to Helga Glock. Helga alleges that the trouble began in October 2008, when Gaston suffered a stroke. One of his nurses, Kathrin Tschikof, "seemingly developed a close personal relationship" with the patient, the 58-page suit says. It goes on to say that soon Helga was denied access to Gaston's hospital room and then locked out of the family mansion. Helga claims it took her a year to recover her clothes and personal items from the lakeside villa in southern Austria.

Gaston divorced Helga in 2011 to marry 31-year old Tschikof who subsequently became manager of the Glock Horse Performance Center. It's difficult to fault his taste, though not his common sense, but credit where credit is due. At 83 he managed to pull off a trophy wife. When she says she loves her Glock she's not kidding; I'm sure she appreciates that passive, internal safety.

So Helga and the kids are put out to pasture and the 31 year old with the riding crop is in the saddle. You'd think that would be the end of it but as my old neighbor Paul Harvey used to say, "Now for the rest of the story."

The Glock saga includes a French ex-mercenary hired in 1999 to murder Gaston to cover up the embezzlement of millions from the company and then another Glock exec, Paul Jannuzzo, allegedly embezzling large sums of money before he had a falling out with Gaston Glock in 2003. Jannuzzo is also charged with absconding a prized gun of Gaston's but claims one reason his former employer sought to have him prosecuted was jealousy over a woman who also used to work for Gaston and whom Jannuzzo married. Guns, women and money; one might well anticipate James Bond's arrival.

Late last year Robert was interviewed by the Austrian publication Krone in which he spoke of his family's problems. "It is not about the money. We're talking about a life's work which is now ruined and broken," he lamented. Right, it's not about the money.

The two immutable facts are: The Glock dynasty is going to be tangled up in court with the fate of the company potentially at risk, and the Glock family is a couple of ornaments short of a Christmas tree.

U.N. Celebrates Obama By Pushing

Global Gun Control

Less than 24 hours after winning re-election, President Barack Obama's administration joined with China, France, Germany and the United Kingdom, and more than 150 other governments, in supporting renewed debate on the proposed United Nations Arms Trade Treaty, confirming the worst fears of the American gun rights community. The vote came at the U.N. General Assembly's meeting of the First Committee on Disarmament at the world organization's headquarters in New York City. Amnesty International issued a statement Wednesday lauding passage of the resolution, saying the treaty will protect human rights. "It's obvious that our warnings over the past several months have been true," said Alan Gottlieb, founder and executive vice president of the Second Amendment Foundation. "The election was called about 11 p.m. Tuesday and by 11 a.m. this morning, we got word that the United States was supporting this resolution. We have to be more vigilant in our efforts to stop this proposed treaty." SAF operations director Julianne Versnel, who has been back and forth to the United Nations over this proposal, said the fight is not finished. The measure will be considered for finalization in March 2013.

NSSF - Call Senators Over Sportsmen's Act

As the 112th Congress begins its post-election session, the National Shooting Sports Foundation encourages all firearms owners, hunters and sportsmen to call or email their U.S. Senators and urge them to vote YES on the Sportsmen's Act (S. 3525), the most important package of measures for the benefit of sportsmen in a generation. An early vote has been cleared procedurally, so act now. This historic legislation includes the firearms industry's top legislative priority, the Hunting, Fishing and Recreational Shooting Protection Act (S. 838) that would clarify that ammunition is excluded from regulation by the Environmental Protection Agency under the Toxic Substances Control Act. Anti-hunting groups led by the Center for Biological Diversity are suing the EPA to force a ban on traditional ammunition made with lead components that would devastate hunting and shooting sports participation, drive up ammunition prices by almost 200 percent on average and dry up conservation funding. No less than 46 of the nation's leading sportsmen and conservation groups are backing the bill. Call your U.S. Senators at 202-224-3121and urge them to vote YES for the bipartisan Sportsmen's Act of 2012.
