July 2014

Midsummer Greetings!
After the severe winter we were all anxious about what kind of growing season was in store. Luckily most of my grapes have escaped serious injury from the bitter cold we had experienced- perhaps another benefit of having this Great Lake in our backyard! We, though, expect smaller than normal crop level this fall. Another reason we've been busier in the vineyards to maintain their well-being this summer. Please keep your fingers crossed...

Sunset Tasting at Thorpe Vineyard
Our Sunset Tastings are going on this summer, again on Saturday evenings. It starts at 6pm when our regular tasting room hours end, and lasts until sunset. We offer extra munchies to pair with our wine for you to relax and enjoy some quiet time. As was last year I'm hosting this tasting so if you have any wine and/or grape questions, this is the chance to stop by and talk to me. When I cannot be here, I'll post about it on Facebook --- so like us to keep informed! Like us on Facebook

I'm busy preparing whenever I can find some time --- it's more study than originally anticipated, but I hope it to be informative, amusing and fascinating! There is no cover charge; just bring your heart and stories to share with us. For more information please click here.

Fireflies are another summertime joy. When I walk out the door and look up at the starts, they are always between us. In ancient Japan they were believed to carry our messages to our loved ones in Heaven. As I grew up in the big city, it was truly delightful to find so many fireflies when I first came up here. I now see those scintillating lights in and around the vineyards every night that still make me feel the same way...

Fireflies
by Fumie Thorpe

I walk out to the field looking for

the gathering of the Planets. Over the horizon

what I see are the countless fireflies.

They so freely fly up, and

cross the night sky --- playfully competing

their acrobatic skills with the shooting stars.
