Milestone Executes Utility Contracts
Two New Contracts Open Up More Than 50 Sites
Milestone executed two agreements with Virginia-based utility companies to market a variety of sites to wireless carriers as potential cell tower locations. The first, with Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority (RWSA) will add 30 sites--including both raw land and existing structures--to Milestone's portfolio. The second, with Northern Neck Electric Cooperative (NNEC) involves 21 sites, including land, substations and three existing towers.

The agreements represent Milestone's expanding list of utility partners, as utility properties are increasingly attractive as wireless tower sites. "Utility land and especially existing structures have a number of benefits that make the tower-building process more seamless," said Milestone President, Len Forkas. "Wireless carriers are responding and this is a growth area as a result."

RWSA, based in Charlottesville, Virginia, is an independent public agency and wholesale water provider with almost 90 employees. NNEC is a member-owned, non-profit, rural electric cooperative, headquartered in Warsaw, Virginia.

Project Update: Corkran Middle
The cell tower foundation at Corkran Middle School in Glen Burnie, MD has been completed! As reported in the October Wireless Tower News, this project was delayed when it was determined that the three-legged "marquee" design did not fit the planning code's definition of a monopole.

An amendment by the County Council of Anne Arundel County put the project back on track by updating the zoning code to include language allowing for different types of cell towers when installations are located on government-owned land.
