Saltwater Fishing Day & Family Camp Out
Join us on Saturday, August 10th, 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM at Fort Trumbull State Park fishing pier in New London for our second annual Saltwater Fishing Day. Activities to include fishing, crabbing, and fun fish games. Our CARE instructors are ready to assist you. So come with a picnic lunch and meet us down at the Fort Trumbull State Park fishing pier. The event is FREE, bait will be provided, you can even borrow our tackle or bring your own. No need to register just come out and have some fun!
Our seventh annual No Child Left Inside Camp Out will be taking place Saturday, August 17 - Sunday, August 18 at Gay City State Park in Hebron. To register for the camp out please contact Diane Joy by Saturday, August 10. We have lots of fun activities planned. Bring your fishing poles, swim suits, hiking shoes and musical instruments (or just be prepared to sing along). You can arrive at noon, set-up camp and then play some field games, go fishing, swimming or hiking. Have dinner around 5 PM and then come over and learn about moths at 5:30 PM and bats at 6:30 PM. We will make moth mush to try to attract moths in the evening and you can create your very own glow in the dark stars. Enjoy a bonfire, s'mores and songs with Alberto. When the sky gets really dark we will do some star gazing. After a good night sleep you can pack-up and head over to Dinosaur State Park Day in Rocky Hill.

Nature Centers at State Parks Chatfield Hollow State Park Nature Center - The Nature Center is open this year on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm. In addition, there will be guided bird walks leaving from the Nature Center every Saturday at 8:30 am. Rocky Neck State Park: Join Nature Center staff as they set up a spotting scope at the historic stone pavilion overlooking Long Island Sound. Listen to a geography lecture and then join a short nature walk to Tony's Nose. The program is on Tuesdays at 3 PM and Saturdays at 2 PM. For more information (860) 739-1341 Stratton Brook State Park Nature Center - The Nature Center has filled its summer calendar with programs ranging from fishing and wildlife to scavenger hunts and history. Dinosaur State Park Day, Two Days Saturday, August 17, and Sunday, August 18, 10 AM - 3 PM, This will be a double DinoDay to celebrate the State Parks Centennial. Music, games, a craft tent and two live animal presentations are scheduled on Saturday. For the second day, there will be live musical entertainment from 11 AM to 1 PM. Master Falconer Lorrie Schumacher will present a birds of prey program featuring birds in flight at 1 PM. All activities will be free on both days (except for food vendors and mining activity). Wednesday, August 21, train leaves the station at 7:30 AM and returns at 11 AM. Join the SoJourn Team as we take time out from biking across CT and travel aboard the train and take a cruise on the Becky Thatcher. Contact Diane Joy by email or call (860) 424-3973. Year of the Snake at Beardsley Zoo Saturday, August 24 Visit Beardsley Zoo (entrance fee) and learn why 2013 has been proclaimed the Year of the Snake. The DEEP Wildlife Division will present on Connecticut's native snake species. The SoJourn team will be at the zoo in the afternoon.
