How the Carbon Tax will affect your power and gas bills:
Electricity: the Carbon Tax will be passed onto the end consumer by the generation companies and as such will not appear as a line item on your monthly bill. Natural Gas: while it hasn't yet been settled, it is expected that the Carbon Tax will be a line item on your monthly gas bill, similar to GST. What can you do, armed with this information? Peace Power secured its fixed rate prices prior to the release of the Carbon Tax legislation and as such, our existing fixed rates do not include any Carbon Tax! By signing onto one of our low fixed rates, whether to the end of 2018 or 2020, you get to skip out on paying the Carbon Tax until these rates expire! That's approximately 2.5 or 4.5 years, depending on the rate you choose, tax free! Dr. Andrew Leach, who effectively provided the guidance for the Carbon Tax to the Alberta Government, expects the tax to raise electricity rates by as much as 30% over time. For natural gas, it's looking like no such tax breaks are available. The Carbon Tax will simply be added on to whatever rate you are on, whether an existing or new fixed rate, or a variable rate. It is expected that the Carbon Tax will push natural gas rates up by approximately $1.67/GJ. Get a FREE evaluation done with Peace Power! Our Variable rate for electricity has never been lower, only 2.79 cents/kWh right now Chamber members get exclusive fixed rates to the end of 2018 starting at 5.25 cents/kWh and to the end of 2020 starting at 6.05 cents/kWh Peace Power, Providing the Peace Region's Best Electricity & Gas Experience!
