Beat This Week's Deadlines for SRM's Annual Meeting!!
  

Hotel Update: The Courtyard by Marriott has extended the cut-off date for reservations for the 2013 Annual Meeting to Jan. 17thIn order to get the conference rate make your reservation before it is too late!

  • If you call the hotels directly, be sure to mention the SRM Meeting Room Block and identify yourself as an SRM attendee.
  • If you reserve online make sure to use each hotels' direct link to be assured of getting the correct rate.

Registration Deadline Today:  Pre-registration will be available through Wednesday, Jan. 16th for online and paper registrations. The system will close at midnight on the 16th and anyone who has not registered will have to register on-site at the meeting when they arrive. This will save time and will help meeting organizers prepare your registration materials. Also, if you need to add additional items to an existing registration (such as tour tickets, meal tickets or workshops) this must be done using the printable registration form (not online). Don't miss the chance to be a part of this first-class conference, pre-register now!

  

 

Did you forget to add a ticket or workshop to your registration?

You are probably sitting in your recliner dreaming about the upcoming SRM meeting in Oklahoma City, February 2-8.  While looking over the awesome events you have a sinking feeling in your gut as you realize... you forgot to register for an amazing meal, eye opening tour or educational workshop!  Well you are in luck!  An 'Event Add-On Form' will now allow you to add any of the amazing items that you forgot.  The deadline is January 16th and the form can be found on the SRM website.  Just make sure you return it to the SRM staff by January 16th.  Don't fret, you can still make it BUT don't delay. Undergraduate Range Plant ID Contest Registration

This is for all undergraduates interested in participating in the Range Plant Identification Contest at the 2013 SRM national conference in Oklahoma City.  A coach or other representative should email Rixey Jenkins ([email protected]) with the name of the school, name of the coach, and the names of the team members.  The deadline for email registration is January 18, 2013.  On-site registration will be February 3, 2013.

Photographers Needed for Awards Ceremony
We are looking for two volunteers to take photos of Honor and Student awardees during the Awards Program on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013.


Time commitment will be from noon until approximately 5:30 pm. No professional experience required but good quality digital camera is necessary.

Just Out of the Chute - Last Minute Opportunity To Present  

 

The Program Committee for the 2013 Annual Meeting in Oklahoma City has room and welcomes submissions of abstracts for papers.  A few spots remain for the Tuesday afternoon poster session, and we are fortunate to have an open room on Thursday for oral papers.  If you are interested in presenting either a poster or oral paper, send an email message to [email protected] by Jan. 20.  You will receive instructions on how to prepare and submit the abstract.

 

Restrictions:

  • Papers will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis for the open spots
  • Papers will not be eligible for the graduate student paper/poster contest
  • Papers will be announced on the meeting web page (http://rangelands.org/events/) and the Daily Trail Boss at the meeting (they will not appear on the published program).

Sign Up Now For A Booth at the 2013 SRM Trade Show

 

The Society for Range Management Annual Meeting, Technical Training and Trade Show invites range clubs, agencies, private companies and organizations to register for a booth for the 2013 Trade Show. This is an opportunity to interact with more than 1,500 range practitioners including scientists, agency personnel, ranchers, students, consultants and more.

 

The trade show will set up on Sunday from 12pm to 6pm and open on Monday from 8am to 6pm and Tuesday from 7am to 6pm. Monday evening a Trade Show Mixer will be held from 6pm to 8pm featuring appetizers, cash bar and The A-Bar Bunkhouse Band. This popular band is from the bluestem country of Oklahoma and will be an attraction that no one will want to miss.

Ecological Site Workshops at the Annual Meeting

 

SRM is hosting three Ecological Site Description (ESD) workshops at the Annual Meeting in Oklahoma City. For complete workshop agendas click here. There are limited seats available, so register today! The workshop on Saturday, Feb. 2nd is intended for ESD developers and will showcase interagency and interdisciplinary ESD development efforts from across the country. The Saturday workshop is worth 8 CEUs. The ESD users' workshop consists of four-hour sessions each day from Feb. 4th-7th, and  will focus on standards, concepts, data management, and field use for ESD users. The four-day users' workshop is worth 16 CEUs. The final workshop, on Thursday, Feb. 7th, is intended for students and will focus on ecological site concepts, description and applications. The student workshop can be taken for 1 hour of college credit. Pre-registration is required for each of these workshops, and can be completed using the SRM registration form. VGS (Vegetation/GIS Data System) User-Group Meeting and Seminar in Oklahoma City

 

VGS is a free tablet/PC database application for field sampling and data management.  The USDA Forest Service and the University of Arizona will be hosting a user-group meeting and seminar for all users and anyone interested in the software.  The seminar will include demos, sneak peeks at future enhancements, tips and tricks, discussions about the future and the opportunity to provide feedback.

 

When:  Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013 - 1:00 - 3:00 pm (drop in anytime)

Where:  Oklahoma City Cox Convention Center - Meeting Room #19

The SRM Endowment Fund Development Committee is in the process of conducting their annual raffle. For $5.00/ticket or $20.00 for 5 tickets, you will be entered into the drawing for:

Selling of tickets will continue until drawing that will be held at the Oklahoma BBQ Banquet on Wednesday evening, Feb. 6, 2013. 2013 SRM Endowment Fund Silent Auction

 

 The Endowment Fund Development Committee requests your participation in the 2013 Silent Auction! At the 2012 Silent Auction in Spokane, over $10,000 was raised for the Endowment Fund by auctioning 120 items. All proceeds from the Silent Auction each year are added to the Endowment Fund. We are looking forward another successful Silent Auction Feb. 3-5 in Oklahoma City.

Update - North American Invasive Plant Ecology & Management Short Course
June 25 - 27, 2013

 

 

January 9, 2013. The 2013 North American Invasive Plant Ecology and Management Short Course (NAIPSC) is now open for registration. Similar to previous years, the 2013 NAIPSC Field Course will include presentations, hands-on workshops, site visits and instructor-led discussion sessions on the latest in invasive plant ecology and management. The NAIPSC Special Session for 2013 is on the topic of biocontrol. Registration can be done either online or by downloading a brochure from the NAIPSC website (http://ipscourse.unl.edu). While there, be sure to check out the new NAIPSC Online Community that features relevant webinars, interesting articles, and opportunities to interact on any topic related to invasive plants. Also new is the Invasive Weed Ecology Program, which has some interesting information and thoughtful insights on invasive plants. The third annual NAIPSC Field Course will be held June 25-27, 2013 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln West Central Research & Extension Center in North Platte, NE. CEU and graduate student credit will be available.
