Just Out of the Chute - Last Minute Opportunity to Present a Poster or Oral Paper
 
 

The Program Committee for the 2013 Annual Meeting in Oklahoma City has room and welcomes submissions of abstracts for papers.

 

A few spots remain for the Tuesday afternoon poster session, and we are fortunate to have an open room on Thursday for oral papers.

 

If you are interested in presenting either a poster or oral paper, send an email message to

Justoutofthechute@rangelands.org by January 20. You will receive instructions on how to prepare and submit the abstract.

 

Restrictions:

  •  Papers will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis for the open spots
  •  Papers will not be eligible for the graduate student paper/poster contest
  •  Papers will be announced on the meeting web page (http://rangelands.org/events/) and the Daily Trail Boss at the meeting (they will not appear on the published program).

Undergraduate Range Plant ID Contest Registration
 

This is for all undergraduates interested in participating in the Range Plant Identification Contest at the 2013 SRM national conference in Oklahoma City.  A coach or other representative should email Rixey Jenkins (rixeyjenkins@gmail.com
) with the name of the school, name of the coach, and the names of the team members.  The deadline for email registration is January 18, 2013.  On-site registration will be February 3, 2013.

 

Endowment Fund Raffle


The SRM Endowment Fund Development Committee is in the process of conducting their annual raffle. For $5.00/ticket or $20.00 for 5 tickets, you will be entered into the drawing for:


1st Prize:         A custom Browning O/U 12 ga. shotgun donated by Sharp Bro. Seeds

 

2nd Prize:          A custom 50X Beaver hat donated by Shorty's Hattery


3rd Prize:          A Harold Holden bronze donated by SRM Past-Presidents


Loser Prize:     A Ruger 22 cal. rifle donated by Sharp Bro. Seed


Selling of tickets will continue until drawing that will be held at the Oklahoma BBQ Banquet on Wednesday evening, February 6, 2013. In the meantime, anyone wishing to buy and/or sell additional tickets prior to the OKC meeting, contact Rod Heitschmidt (heitschmidt@att.net

Ecological Site Workshops at the Annual Meeting


SRM is hosting three Ecological Site Description (ESD) workshops at the Annual Meeting in Oklahoma City. For complete workshop agendas click here. There are limited seats available, so register today! The workshop on Saturday, February 2nd is intended for ESD developers and will showcase interagency and interdisciplinary ESD development efforts from across the country. The Saturday workshop is worth 8 CEUs. The ESD users workshop consists of four-hour sessions each day from February 4th-7th, and  will focus on standards, concepts, data management, and field use for ESD users. The four-day users workshop is worth 16 CEUs. The final workshop, on Thursday, February 7th, is intended for students and will focus on ecological site concepts, description and applications. The student workshop can be taken for 1 hour of college credit. Pre-registration is required for each of these workshops, and can be completed using the SRM registration form. See you in Oklahoma!

Sign Up Now for A Booth at the 2013 SRM Trade Show

 


A-Bar Bunkhouse Band 

The Society for Range Management Annual Meeting, Technical Training and Trade Show invites range clubs, agencies, private companies and organizations to register for a booth for the 2013 Trade Show. This is an opportunity to interact with more than 1,500 range practitioners including scientists, agency personnel, ranchers, students, consultants and more.

 

The trade show will set up on Sunday from 12pm to 6pm and open on Monday from 8am to 6pm and Tuesday from 7am to 6pm. Monday evening a Trade Show Mixer will be held from 6pm to 8pm featuring appetizers, cash bar and The A-Bar Bunkhouse Band. This popular band is from the bluestem country of Oklahoma and will be an attraction that no one will want to miss.

Student Chapter Display Contest 
 
 

This is for all student chapters who want to participate in the Student Chapter Display Contest at this year's SRM national conference in Oklahoma. Be sure to submit an application and registration as an exhibitor to get your booth space. If you plan on participating please have a representative from your student chapter email Rory O'Connor (ro.c.oconnor@gmail.com) or Marji Patz (marji.patz@wy.usda.gov) to let them get a head count.  
 
Booth Registration was December 10, 2012; late entries will now have a $50 fee added for late registration.
 

Do You Tweet? 2013 SRM Oklahoma City Annual Meeting Goes High Tech with Twitter (#SRM2013)

Welcome to the 21st century. The 2013 planning committee has decided to go high tech for the annual meeting in Oklahoma City with the new Twitter hashtag #SRM2013. This is a chance for social interaction on the internet about all things SRM OKC in 2013. Let's hear some tweets from the membership.

A couple of important items regarding the meeting,  which is scheduled for Feb. 2 - 8, 2013: anything and everything you will need to know is located on the website (http://rangelands.org/oklahoma_city2013/). On the webpage, several items have been added, including the program at a glance.

Be sure to register and get hotel reservations soon to take advantage of cheaper rates. This year's meeting will be held, February 2-8, 2013, in the heart of Oklahoma City.   

 

The 2013 OKC SRM Planning Committee has organized a great event and we hope you will experience the excitement of Oklahoma by adding time to take one of the social or technical tours we have planned.

2013 SRM Job Fair   

 

Sunday, Feb. 3, 2012, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

MISSION OF THE RANGELAND JOB FAIR

 

The mission is to match prospective employers from the Federal Agencies, State and Provincial Governments, Private Industry, Academia and Conservation Organizations with the high caliber of educated and enthusiastic prospects from SRM.

 

PROVISION FOR EMPLOYERS

 

Employers will be provided space to display information, distribute vacancy announcements and interact with job seekers. Registered participants will be provided with one 6-ft table for displays within a large exposition area. For an extra charge, we will also provide 4'x 8' display boards (see registration form).

 

We will encourage all interested meeting attendees to drift through and browse the JOB FAIR between other scheduled activities, meetings and workshops. We do expect that all participants staff, their tables/displays and be prepared to answer questions.

This is a free service for employers that represent SRM members and Trade Show participants. This is a free service for all job seekers interested in the rangeland profession.

 

All employers MUST register for this program.

 

To register, please complete the reservation form which can be found on the SRM website: http://www.rangelands.org and return it to the address at the bottom of the form. Reservations will be accepted on a first-come, first served basis, and space is limited. The deadline for receipt of all reservations is January 13, 2013. On-site registrations may be accepted, depending on available space, and will require payment of a $100 late fee.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS

 

In addition to the successful Student Employment Workshop (now called the Rangeland Employment Workshop), where you can ask questions on how to really succeed in the job market, SRM is planning to host additional career development workshops. All workshops will be one to two hours in length and will be offered concurrently with the 2013 Rangeland Job Fair on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 3, 2013 from 1 pm to 6 pm. Top professionals from both the private and public sectors of rangeland management have volunteered to guide these workshops to benefit SRM members.
 

2013 SRM Endowment Fund Silent Auction  

 

The Endowment Fund Development Committee requests your participation in the 2013 Silent Auction!  At the 2012 Silent Auction in Spokane, over $10,000 was raised for the Endowment Fund by auctioning 120 items.  All proceeds from the Silent Auction each year are added to the Endowment Fund. The Silent Auction will operate during the Trade Show hours in the Trade Show Area/Hall.  Auction close out and item pick up will occur Tuesday evening.
