Range Student Recruitment Website

We are developing a Range Student Recruitment Website to be premiered in Oklahoma City in February 2013.  We need biographical sketches of both current range students and working range professionals. Fill out a short survey before Dec. 8, 2012, submit three digital photos of yourself and rangelands, and you will be entered into a drawing for a $100 Carhartt gift certificate (one per category).  Please share this with range students in your classes and all range professionals. The survey takes about 15 minutes to complete. Questions? Contact Susan Edinger Marshall at sem11@humboldt.edu.

Call for SRM Nominations of Officers

My career in rangeland management has been varied and exciting to say the least, but without doubt, the highlight was the time I served as a member of the Board, and ultimately as president of the Society for Range Management. Membership in this professional society has afforded me, challenge, opportunity, and a continued learning environment I would not have been able to find without actively participating in the process.

As chairman of the Nominating Committee, I am asking all members to consider serving on the board, or as an officer in SRM. While the process may seem a bit daunting - no one likes to stand for election - it is well worth the time and effort. I can honestly say that for every minute I spent, more than that was returned to me in time. And, as I have said to many others in the society, there are literally hundreds of people who would make outstanding board members.

As important as this is to all of us, it is incumbent on the Sections to forward names of potential officers and board members as well. In recent years, we have not done that job as effectively as we should. Way back when I was nominated, it was done by the Wyoming section; I encourage section leaders to step up to that challenge. The other opportunity lies with members who know each other best - please forward your ideas for leadership.

Within the next few months, I would like to build a roster of candidates for board and leadership positions. It is my expectation that this roster could be used and added to in the future, and that it might serve as an opportunity for leadership development efforts within SRM. Please let me hear your ideas, either by email or phone (below). It is always the right time to move the Society and the profession forward.

2013 SRM Endowment Fund Silent Auction

The Endowment Fund Development Committee requests your participation in the 2013 Silent Auction! At the 2012 Silent Auction in Spokane, over $10,000 was raised for the Endowment Fund by auctioning 120 items. All proceeds from the Silent Auction each year are added to the Endowment Fund. We are looking forward another successful Silent Auction February 3-5 in Oklahoma City.

The SRM Endowment Fund was established in 1987 to help underwrite a strong financial position for the Society. Individual contributions and special events, such as raffles and the Silent Auction add to the corpus of the Endowment Fund. A portion of the earnings gained from investment of the Endowment Fund each year support the operating budget or special projects of SRM as determined by the Board of Directors. As the Endowment Fund grows, it contributes greater amounts to SRM's programs and operations.

You can participate by donating items to be auctioned and by bidding on items in the auction. Bid high and bid often! Past Silent Auction items have included art, books, jewelry, SRM mementos, and more! So bring your items and your check book or credit card to Oklahoma City.

The Silent Auction will operate during the Trade Show hours in the Trade Show Area/Hall. Auction close out and item pick up will occur Tuesday evening.

For more information on the 2013 SRM Silent Auction or if you have an item for the Auction but are not able to transport it to the meeting, contact Meribeth Lomkin at momkin64@gmail.com or call 208-358-1533.
