The 19th World Maccabiah Games came to a close last night with a celebratory closing ceremony at Teddy Stadium. It was a festive party, where members of Team USA had the opportunity to celebrate their athletic achievements, spend time with new friends and of course, trade their apparel and pins with the other athletes from over 75 countries.

All of our Juniors, Open and Youth athletes have returned to Kfar Maccabiah to prepare for their departure.  This is the same place where everyone began their journey as a Team three weeks ago. As of early this morning, over 300 of our athletes have begun to make their way home with the rest scheduled to board their flights for the USA over the course of the day and evening. Starting tonight and certainly tomorrow, you will be able to welcome your friends and family home as they arrive back from Israel.

I hope every athlete and supporter has had a wonderful experience at the 19th World Maccabiah Games. On a personal note, this was my most memorable Maccabiah experience of the nine I have participated in (as an athlete and volunteer). Besides my role as USA Team Manager, I had the chance to compete again, in the Masters Judo Competition, the same day my son Adam competed in the Open Judo Team Competition. It was a thrill to have him coach me in my fights and then to watch him and his team win the bronze medal, as well as an individual bronze medal a day earlier. It was the first time in the history of the Maccabiah Judo Competition that a father and son competed and won medals together. It is a memory I will cherish forever.

I hope each of you that participated in the Games, whether as an athlete, volunteer, staff or supporter, also have had experiences that will be memories you cherish forever.
