When to Surrender The Keys

One of the most difficult conversations that you have to have with your parents is when to surrender the keys to the car. Ultimately it is for their safety and the safety of others.

The most critical part of the conversation is when to have it.  If you recognize some signs that their driving may be impaired, don't wait. Have the conversation before an accident happens.  Because it will.

I can share stories of vehicles going through store fronts, multiple vehicle accidents, and even pedestrians being hit.  When your gut tells you it's time, don't hesitate to have the conversation.  Yes, it will limit their independence, but it will also keep them and others safe.

Here is a great article that talks about some early warning signs and how best to start the conversation:

It may be a hard conversation, but in the end it will keep your loved ones safe.

Home Alone
      Summer Safety Tips For Kids

School's out and many parents are

deciding if their children are old enough to be home alone.  If you decide that your child will do just fine on their own, here are some home

alone summer safety tips to ensure your son or daughter stays safe while you're not home:

Talk to your child about whether he or she can go outside. If so, set some boundaries about where they can and can't go.

Be sure your child knows what to do and in case there's an emergency. Ensure they have your cell phone number and your office number.

Designate a trusted neighbor your child can go to or call if they're scared or if there's an emergency and can't reach you.

Impress upon your child the need to keep the door locked at all times. Caution them not to open the door or talk to anyone who knocks or rings the bell.

If you've asked a family friend or relative to check in on your child, make sure your child is comfortable being alone with that person.

Remind your child not to tell anyone beforehand that they're going to be home alone. He or she should also be reminded not to tell anyone who calls that they're home alone.

HurricaneIt's Hurricane Season - Is Your Wedding

Protected?

You have dreamed of planning the perfect
wedding, but no matter how carefully they plan it, plans can quickly blow away. It's officially hurricane season and although we certainly cannot predict Mother Nature, we can ensure weddings are protected from unpredictable and unavoidable situations.

Wedding insurance offers peace of mind and financial protection without a deductible. Policies must be issued at least 14 days in advance for catastrophic weather to be covered. These no-deductible policies protect against financial loss from unavoidable mishaps such as catastrophic weather, lost deposits, bankrupt venues, ruined photos, and more. There is also an option to buy liability insurance, which includes the ability to add onsite liquor liability coverage.

Hope for the best, but plan for the worst. Mother Nature is after all the ultimate wedding crasher!
