Insurance Carriers Put the Brakes on Vehicle Sharing

There are a number of car sharing services that have made their way to the Boston area.  Rideshare, Lyft, Uber, RelayRides and FlightCar were opportunities for people to make money by sharing their car.

We advised against that in our June newsletter, citing a number of coverage gaps.  Recently, insurance carriers solidified their stance on car sharing by rolling out policy language that specifically excludes coverage while your vehicle is being used in a personal vehicle sharing program.

So if you are participating in a vehicle sharing program now, you might want to re-think it.  There won't be much to share if you have no coverage.

Valentine's Bling?

Of the roughly 2.6 Million people that get engaged each year, about 10% get engaged on Valentine's Day.  27% of brides call their best friend first after the proposal. Who should be the second call??

Okay maybe not the second call, but your insurance agent should at least make the top ten.  Be sure to schedule the ring on a homeownners policy to make sure you are properly covered.

facebookProtecting Your Social Identity

facebook privacy

Social media has been an outlet for identity thieves to compromise your personal information.  That can lead to a host of issues including identity theft.

Here are 5 simple steps to protect yourself online:

1. Always lock down your Facebook settings so only your friends can access personal info.

2. Never share your date of birth.

3. Don't use a passport style photo as your profile picture.

4. Never click the box to save your password while you are on a public, work or laptop computer.

5. Don't announce that you are on vacation.  That can be an open invitation for burglars to rob your home.
