A Shout Out to Grandma
Twenty years ago when I got into the family business I had the pleasure of working with my grandmother, Mary Ruddy Hackett. By that point she had already had 50 years in the business and was a lot wiser than me.
Most people would tell you she was tough. If she liked you, you knew it...and if she didn't like you, you knew that too. During her time with our company she managed to raise a family and run the business at a time when women were not in leadership roles in our industry, which might explain why she had to assert herself with her peers.
Although the time I worked with her was short, she was able to give me some pieces of advice that I will always remember. Always harping on honesty, integrity and trust. She left her mark on our business, the industry, and the legacy of values that she instilled in all of us.
Next Sunday, September 8th, is Grandparents Day. I'd like to send a shout out to my grandmother and would encourage you all to celebrate and remember your grandparents.
