Yes We Can.....
Is not just for political campaigns, it was also my response to a question from a client last month. I wrote an article about consolidating coverages with one company to save money. A client called shortly after reading the article to say, "I didn't know you wrote other types of insurance".
Insurance comes in all shapes and sizes and we service them all. About half of our clients are personal lines - auto, home, umbrella , boat, jet skis, snowmobiles, etc. The other half of our clients are commercial lines. Everything from Main Street businesses and office exposures to marinas, municipalities and developers.
Some of the most unique things and people we have insured?
A wind turbine, Amelia Earhart's childhood home, a US Congressman, and when the Dora the Explorer Show needed coverage - we were happy to help.
So if there are coverages that you had not thought to have us review, please give us a call. We want to be your source for insurance advice and protection.

Regards,

Edward P. Hackett, CIC CRM
Vice-President

Travel Insurance....What's the Real Value?
Planning a trip is exciting. Picking your destination, places to visit, golf courses to play. But what if you can't make your departure, you take sick during your trip ,or worse yet, have to be flown home for medical care? Travel insurance policies will offer a number of different options, but there are three popular ones that you should know about.
Trip cancellation and interruption is the most sought after coverage. If you or a travel companion are sick on departure day or take sick during the trip, the policy will cover the cost associated with the cancellation. This coverage is a must have for extended trips, particularly those overseas.
Baggage and Personal Effects Coverage is another popular option, but it does not add a lot of value. This option can be skipped unless it's included with no charge. Most items that you take in your luggage would be covered under your homeowners policy. Be careful with jewelry. Items should be scheduled on your homeowners before you leave.
Medical Evacuation Coverage is critical if you are leaving the country. In the event that you need to be transported back to the States for medical care, the policy will cover the cost of the trip. We had a client that was in a terrible car accident and had to be med-flighted back to Boston from overseas. Thankfully, she is ok and was happy to have the Medical Evac coverage option on her travel insurance.

That is what my four year old son yells at the top of his lungs when we test the smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms each fall. So when you turn back the clocks on November 4th, think of Bryan and remember these simple tasks:
Change the batteries in all your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. Test each one to make sure they work properly.
Check the expiration date printed on the inside of the alarm to make sure its not expired.
Encourage the kids to help so they have a better understanding of what to do in the event of a fire.
Make a plan. Everyone in the house should know at least two ways to get out of the house during a fire. Pick a meeting spot outside away from the house.
Make sure everyone is safe. Visit your elderly neighbors with a handful of batteries and help them test their alarms.
