| Evaluate the Narrative Lectionary |
Here's your last chance to add your input to the narrative lectionary evaluation! Thanks to the three (3!) people who have voiced their opinion to this point, but that's not enough! Take a moment and fill out the survey below, or if you want to speak directly with Pr. Jeff, give him a call at 510-757-3652!
For the past year, we've been using the "Narrative Lectionary" in worship at the Chapel. This means that we have read a single lesson on Sunday mornings -- focusing on the Old Testament stories in the fall, and the gospel of Luke in the spring. We've read through the Bible sequentially to emphasize the "narrative" of the story of God's promise as it unfolds. We're in the process of evaluating this experiment and would love your feedback!
Please click here for the survey!

| Job opening at PLTS |
Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary invites applications and nominations for the full-time office-based administrative position of Director of Contextual Education.
Take a look at the full job description here! |
| Thanks for supporting FASTING workers! | Thanks for your support this week as Pr. Jeff joined 30 fired grocery store workers (from Mi Pueblo) other clergy, union allies, and community members on a 3-day hunger strike to expose the mass firings of immigrant workers happening across the Bay Area.
Over 1500 workers have been fired in the past two years due to escalating I-9 audits by ICE. These firings are devastating families and result in foreclosures, homelessness, untreated illnesses and mental and emotional distress.
The Chapel proudly supports the work of the Faith Alliance for a Moral Economy (formerly ICWJ) and we believe it doesn't have to be this way. That is why over a dozen clergy and lay leaders fasted in solidarity and lifted a prophetic voice to raise awareness. Clergy and parishes are invited to become members of FAME and to support the important work of solidarity and accompaniment! Come to the party on:
June 25th, 12-2pm

| Endowment |
The ULC Endowment Team announces tax-free IRA rollover for those age 70 ½ and older. Act by December 31st to Take Advantage of the New IRA Rollover Law.
Have you been looking for a way to benefit ULC tax free? Are you wondering what to do with the high distributions you are required to take out of your IRA after age 70 ½? Under the new "Fiscal Cliff" law, if you are aged at least 70 ½ you can make tax-advantaged gifts to University Lutheran Chapel from your traditional IRA. But you must make a transfer by December 31 to have it treated as a distribution for 2013:
You can give up to $100,000 from required distributions you receive from your IRA between January 1, 2013 and December 31, 2013 and not pay federal income tax on the distribution-as long as you transfer it to us by December 31, 2013.
Remember, donations directly to the Endowment Fund keep working year after year. Contact your endowment team members or your financial advisor to make a contribution. (Chuck Jaeger, Tom Ray, Sam Kanenwisher, Judy Timmel)

Prayers this week
|
Trusting in the promise that God hears us, we pray for those in need and in thanksgiving for God's awesomeness-sometimes with sighs too deep for words and sometimes with an explosive "Yes!" to God's work in our midst. Please include the following in your prayers this week:
- Pray for all who minister in difficult places, that God would be their guide and give them comfort as they in turn give guidance and comfort to others in Jesus' name.
- Pray for healing, comfort, and strength for Scot, Juana, and Ray whose cancers progress, for Jose as he continues his healing after heart surgery, for David Johnson following emergency surgery on Sunday with follow-up surgery Tuesday morning.
- Remember those who continue to fight in Afghanistan as a part of Operation Enduring Freedom, especially those who are recovering from injuries sustained, and for those who have died: Todd Clark, 40. Pray for comfort and peace for the families and friends of our military, who are separated from their loved ones. Pray for comfort for those who have lost loved ones and that the wounded may be healed.
- Pray for those who work for peace in all regions of strife. Pray that a path to peace in Syria will be found through diplomacy rather than continued violence and death.
- Pray for the work of Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service and its efforts on behalf of the 4.5 million people worldwide forced into sex work and the 16.4 million who are victims of forced labor.
- Pray for high school, especially Jackson Jaeger who graduates from Berkeley High this weekend, and college/university graduates as they celebrate the completion of this phase of their education and embrace new opportunities ahead.
- Pray for the delegates of the synods meeting in assembly this week: the Grand Canyon, Northeastern Pennsylvania, and Northern Illinois Synods, and the delegates from the Southwestern Pennsylvania Synod and the Upper Susquehanna Synod as they meet in assembly to elect a bishop.
- Pray for seminary graduates across the country who are awaiting call to serve in ministries representing God's work in the world.
- Pray for the Chapel community as we continue to discern God's call to be people of God at work in the world.
- As June 20th-World Refugee Day-approaches, pray for the 47.3 million people around the world who have had to flee their homes under the threat of persecution or due to political conflict and violence.
