Third Sunday after Pentecost
June 2013

Church starts Sunday at 10:oo am!

Both Elijah and Jesus journey through landscapes of loss. Two women of sorrow, both previously acquainted with grief, prepare to bury their sons near the graves of their husbands. Yet death does not have the last word...

prayerPrayers this week

Trusting in the promise that God hears us, we pray for those in need and in thanksgiving for God's awesomeness-sometimes with sighs too deep for words and sometimes with an explosive "Yes!" to God's work in our midst. Please include the following in your prayers this week:

Pray for all who minister in difficult places, that God would be their guide and give them comfort as they in turn give guidance and comfort to others in Jesus' name.

  • Everlasting God, help us prepare our own hearts and meet us in worship. We pray for all worship leaders, called and lay, musicians, congregation administrators, and assistants. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
  • We pray for Tom and for Laura as they bike through California on the AIDS Ride
  •
  • Pray for healing, comfort, and strength for Scot, Juana, and Ray whose cancers progress.
  • We remember those who continue to fight in Afghanistan as a part of Operation Enduring Freedom, especially those who are recovering from injuries sustained, and for those who have died: Justin L. Sisson, 23; Robert A. Pierce, 20; Sean W. Mullen, 39; Kyle P. Stoeckli, 21; Ray A. Ramirez, 20; Mariano M. Raymundo, 21; and Joe A. Nunezrodriguez, 29. We pray for comfort and peace for the families and friends of our military, who are separated from their loved ones. We pray for comfort for those who have lost loved ones and that the wounded may be healed.
  • Pray for those who work for peace in all regions of strife. Pray that a path to peace in the war in Syria will be found through diplomacy rather than continued violence and deaths.
  • Pray for the people of Oklahoma as they face life in the weeks following the destruction of their communities by tornadoes. Pray for the victims of the building collapse in Philadelphia. Pray for comfort those who lost loved ones. Pray for all those who are working together to bring new creation out of the chaos.
  • Pray for the work of Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service and its efforts on behalf of the 4.5 million people worldwide forced into sex work and the 16.4 million who are victims of forced labor.
  • Pray for high school and college/university graduates as they celebrate the completion of this phase of their education and embrace new opportunities ahead.
  • Pray for the delegates of the synods meeting in assembly this weekend: the Allegheny, Central/Southern Illinois, Indiana-Kentucky, New England, Northeastern Iowa, Southern Ohio, Upstate New York, Virginia, and Western North Dakota synods of the ELCA. Also remember the delegates from the Central States, Lower Susquehanna, New Jersey, Northwestern Minnesota, Northwestern Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Southeastern Minnesota, Southwestern Minnesota, Southwestern Washington, and Virginia synods as they meet in assembly to elect bishops.
  • Pray for the Chapel community as we continue to discern God's call to be people of God at work in the world.
