Environmental Justice talk at the Chapel

Sunday, April 28th - 9:30 am
Putting Environmental Justice on the Map: Bridging the university-community divide.
Environmental justice social movements are linking different ways of knowing and engaging with the environment as they struggle for health and self-determination. London will share examples from his collaborative research with EJ organizations in rural California communities and explore the ethical dimensions of these university-community partnerships.
Jonathan London is the Assistant Professor, Department of Human Ecology at UC Davis and the Director of the Center for Regional Change.

Prayers this week
|

Trusting in the promise that God hears us, we pray for those in need and in thanksgiving for God's awesomeness-sometimes with sighs too deep for words and sometimes with an explosive "Yes!" to God's work in our midst. Please include the following in your prayers this week:
Pray for those places in the world in turmoil, especially Korea, Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, USA, where people are pawns in the dangerous, political games their leaders are playing
For those who are in need of comfort, healing, rest
For relationships; God created us to be in relationships, yet it is among the hardest things we do... to honor the other as he or she is, rather than as we would have the other to be
For seminarians who are finishing their academic work this spring and are awaiting call, that the Holy Spirit will work to bring together the right combination of gifts and needs as congregations and organizations seek ministry leaders
For LGBT members of Proclaim who meet on retreat this weekend
For courage to speak up on behalf of the least, the lost, the left out, especially when that one is one's self
Remember in your prayers campus pastors guiding and counseling students at colleges and universities of the ELCA and across the country
Give thanks for the many individuals and congregations that sponsor an ELCA missionary. Their sponsorship makes it possible for the missionaries to pursue God's work as they walk in accompaniment with other members of the global church.
