Fourth Sunday in Lent
March 2013

The story of Lazarus and the rich man is found in Luke as Jesus continues his journey toward Jerusalem. We see the extremes of wealth and poverty - and the reversal in the world to come. As we are looking toward the crucifixion and resurrection, we wonder - is the chasm between wealth and poverty as fixed as we think it is, if even the finality of death is challenged?

Please return communion boxes!

Taking communion bread home to loved ones who can't make it to the Sunday eucharist is a great way of sharing in sacrament and community.

We have several small boxes for this purpose. If you've taken communion home in one of our boxes, would you please return them to the Chapel so we can continue to reuse them?

We appreciate your help in this matter and look forward to sharing communion with everyone!

Bay Area offices of the Bishop, but also Lutheran Social Services, the Lutheran Office of Public Policy, Lutheran
Outdoor Ministries (Mt. Cross), Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary, California Lutheran University, new and
renewing congregations within our Synod, and the work of the ELCA.

prayerPrayers this week

Help. Thanks. Wow. These are the essential prayers. As you pray these prayers each day, please include these friends and members of the Chapel:

Pray for the members of St. Paul Lutheran Church, a 252-year-old ELCA congregation in Pomaria, S.C., as they seek to recover after their building was destroyed in a recent fire.

Pray for the Chapel community as we work together for justice in our community and in the world

Pray for healing
  • For those facing surgery: for Pepe's father, Jose, who will have heart surgery again soon, and those recovering from surgery or illness: Don, Frank, Joel, and Betty
  • For those living with and fighting cancer: for Pepe's mom, Juana; Kristen's mom, Geri; Annika's friend, Ian; David Johnson; Ray Stumpf; Anne
  • In relationships, especially where those relationships are challenged by issues of mental health or by the day-to-day struggles of life
In light of the decision by the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus to sever its relationship with the ELCA and other churches, pray for the global ecumenical movement and for a healthy dialogue among the varied Christian traditions around the world.

In thanksgiving for our new chef Erika Ikemoto who has been cooking for our campus ministry

For those venturing into new vocations, that their gifts may be used for the glory of God

Pray for discernment and the Holy Spirit's guiding as the Roman Catholic Church, and especially the conclave, seeks its next papal leader.
If at any time you have someone you would like the community to pray for, please email Pastor Sanna, sannabeth@gmail.com
