Second Sunday in Lent
February 2013

In Sunday's text the question about merited or unmerited suffering and the parable about the need to get busy with one's life-changes point us toward a time of reckoning.

Despite his dire words, we see a touching and tender picture of Jesus. Come worship with us and learn more!

Rebekah Davis' ordination

Rebekah Davis will be ordained and installed this Sunday as the Associate Pastor at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in San Francisco.

Some may remember her as our PLTS seminarian over a decade ago in 2000.

She's been in Nebraska for the past decade where she made a run for Congress a couple of years ago (a liberal Democrat in a strongly Republican district).

We're thrilled that she is back in the Bay Area.  Congratulations Rebekah!

Scholarships available

The Lutheran Community Foundation is offering scholarships to qualifying high school seniors. Because we have our endowment fund with the lutheran community foundation, we are eligible.

As February ends, turn over a new leaf!

Time to turn over a new leaf!  (A new initiative at the Chapel curated by Robyn Gee and Pr. Jeff)

Th
e Chapel has faced many challenges this past year. Conflict over kids' ministry and worship patterns tore apart some relationships. We also took on tough conversations about how we function. It's easy to feel a bit exhausted.

But it's time to shake off the winter and start anew. Instead of hibernating in your usual pew, we are urging you to turn over a new leaf with someone you don't usually talk to, or someone with whom you want a fresh start. This season, as we wait for a sign of spring, we are encouraging people to sprout new relationships and repair old relationships. Sprout a new chapel friendship.

Don't let your
relationships at the chapel get stuck in the past! Go deeper with someone. Don't let friendship stop at sharing the peace! Make your chapel community feel bigger and better.  This effort is not trying to pretend that we will never have conflicts ever again. This is not to say we have to forgive, forget and ignore past hurts. But we do need to live together.

Grab a leaf. Give a leaf.

If there is someone in the chapel that you would really like to sit down with and repair a relationship, but it feels a bit.... awkward! Not to worry -- drop your leaf in the "Assist Me Leaf" basket, and Pastor Jeff will help facilitate a meeting.

In spiritual terms -- embark on a journey of reconciliation and community building with your fellow chapel-goers.   In leaf terms -- give someone a leaf and let them know that you see them, you're interested in them and you don't want to be a stranger!

 Donations to LVC

We've been hearing a lot of Lutheran Volunteer Corps. Peter and Alyssa introduced their work with LVC a couple of Sundays ago and our Social Justice team directed funds to support LVC's important work.

LVC received almost 200 completed application in their first round! Take a look at their Thank You letter to the Chapel!
