Second Sunday of Advent
December 2012

On this second Sunday of Advent we hear from the book of Joel how the outpouring of God's spirit provides open access to revelation.

There is a Congregational Meeting after the liturgy to discuss the Sustainability Recommendations.

The Fair Trade Mercado will be open this Sunday as well as every Sunday until Christmas.  Help support our work in El Salvador!

Prayers this week

In all things pray!  Please remember these petitions in your daily prayers.

Pray that God will fill us with God's Spirit and help us transform our lives and our communities and will give us the peace of knowing that God in Jesus came to share our human life and to redeem us for the sake of love.

Pray for the people in the southern Philippines whose homes and livelihood have been devastated by Typhoon Bopha

For newcomers to the Chapel that we might see and welcome them as we would wish to be welcomed and that they might find what it is they seek

For healing:
  • For Bob's and Miriam's friend David Johnson who is being treated for leukemia and will receive a bone marrow transplant from his son, Peter, on Dec 12
  • for Annika's friend Ian, recently diagnosed with leukemia
  • for Pepe's mother Juana Sanchez, who continues with medical tests, and for Pepe's father Jose who is preparing for heart surgery
  • for Arthur, undergoing tests, following a viral heart infection
For those who grieve, especially Steve, Nancy, Rachel and Sara and their family at the death of Steve's father Friday morning and Nan Hirleman (PLTS) and family at the death of her mother last Sunday

For those who are struggling - sometimes silently - to survive in our society and are seeking security amid a world that seems cruelly filled with bounty

For those in relationships that are coming apart, that they may be comforted in this time of loss

For those who seek gainful employment and those discerning new vocational paths

For seminary students of the ELCA, especially Maria Anderson, Gretchen Colby, Brach Jennings, Carmen Miranda, and Sara Schultz,  giving thanks that God's work will be glorified through their calling

For the Chapel community as we discern what stewardship means and how it reflects our faith in our extravagantly generous God

Congregational Meeting

Please plan on staying for our congregational meeting at the Chapel after the liturgy this Sunday.

You can prepare for the meeting by reading the Implementation Recommendations for sustainability at the Chapel.

You can also read the whole Sustainability Report prepared by our Sustainable Future Taskforce.

sCollective Discussion next Sunday

Thank you to all of you who have participated in the conversations with Pr. Kibbie Ruth about children at the chapel.

Since the conversations have come to a close, the Council saw a draft of Pr. Ruth's observations, and the parents of the toddlers got together and wrote some suggestions for worship.

The congregation is invited to stay after church on December 16 for a collective discussion about Pr. Ruth's observations. We will discuss ways that worship can change based on the concerns expressed by congregation members and parents with regards to children in worship.

We also want to talk about some of the larger community trends that might have led to the conflict in the first place. We hope that this conversation will launch us into a new, positive pattern of worship for children, families and everyone.

We would really appreciate your participation and thoughtfulness as we wrap up this process. It seems important that we're all around the same table at once, so that we can move forward from the same place.

The meeting will be in the sanctuary of the Chapel next Sunday, December 16, and will begin directly after worship. We will try to keep the meeting to 1.5 hrs! Families, we are working out child care.
