First Sunday of Advent
December 2012

Our first Sunday of Advent is in memory of the four churchwomen who were martyred in El Salvador on December 2, 1980.

We will also have our Fair Trade Mercado right after the liturgy.

Prayers this week

In all things pray!  Please remember these petitions in your daily prayers.

As we enter this time of waiting and watching, may we have eyes to see the signs of God's presence in the world. May we prepare our lives and our homes to receive Jesus who is the light of the world.

For the people in the Caribbean and eastern U.S. struggling to recover from the devastation and loss of life caused by the storms of Hurricane Sandy.

For the people of Gaza and Israel and for their leaders, that they may find their way back to peace

For newcomers to the Chapel that we might see and welcome them as we would wish to be welcomed and that they might find what it is they seek

For healing:
  • for Pepe's mother Juanita Sanchez, who is hospitalized and undergoing tests
  • for Arthur, for recuperative rest and a good long-term prognosis, following a viral heart infection
  • for those undergoing cancer treatment, especially Kirsten (Tom Ray's friend), Geri (Kristin Bass's mother), Pam and her husband Jeff        (friends of Louise & Pr. Jeff)
For those who are struggling - sometimes silently - to survive in our society and are seeking security amid a world that seems cruelly filled with bounty

For families and friends through this holiday season when busy-ness can add undue stress, when the absence of loved ones can be overwhelming, for those in relationships that are coming apart, that they may be comforted in this time of loss

For those who continue to seek viable employment and those discerning new vocational paths

For all Muslims and Christians and the leaders of both faiths that the violence and antagonism of today will be replaced with love and respect
