Twenty-fifth Sunday after Pentecost
November 2012

This Sunday we hear about Isaiah encountering the holy God. Isaiah cannot help but reply: "Here am I, send me!" For Isaiah, there is no hesitation and there are no excuses, contingencies, or "what-ifs."

We are celebrating Bread for the World Sunday with an opportunity to make a donation and to write letters to congress in support of hunger relief.

Prayers this week

In all things pray!  Please remember these petitions in your daily prayers.

For the people of Gaza and Israel and for their leaders, that they may find their way back to peace

For Arthur, recently diagnosed with a viral infection of the heart, for recuperative rest and a good long-term prognosis

For the family and friends of Connie Tempelis (Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church), as they mourn his death

For all those who are still suffering the effects of Hurricane Sandy, for comfort and safety for those who continue to be without the basics for living and strength to those who come to their aid

For healing for those undergoing cancer treatment, especially Kirsten (Tom Ray's friend), Geri (Kristin Bass's mother), Pam and her husband Jeff (friends of Louise & Pr. Jeff)

For our campus ministry students and leaders who are off for retreat this weekend

For relationships, in families and between friends, especially as the holiday season approaches when busy-ness can add undue stress

For all Muslims and Christians and the leaders of both faiths that the violence and antagonism of today will be replaced with love and respect

Transgender Day of Remembrance is an international event observed annually on November 20th.

Begun in 1998, it is a day for the transgender and gender-variant community to memorialize those who have been murdered over the previous year because of their real or perceived gender identity or gender expression.

These events serve as a way to mourn those we have lost as well as call attention to the violence the trans* community faces. This year the University Chapel at UC Berkeley will be holding a Eucharistic service and a reading of the names. We hope you join us for the service at 5:00 pm.

This Sunday we observe Bread for the World Sunday. Bread for the World Sunday offers an opportunity for us to engage in God's work to end hunger.

We join thousands of other Christians across the country as we lift up our voices on behalf of hungry people. Join us as we celebrate our calling as Jesus' disciples to work for justice for hungry people.

Come join us in an opportunity for children and youth of all ages to engage in advocacy about immigration issues. Thousands of parents are deported away from their children every year in the United States.

Let our children's voices be heard through the We Belong Together letter writing campaign! Click here for more information!

synod1 Synod Listening Session

An Invitation to Participate in a Listening Session about the Synod's Mission and 2014-15 Proposed Budget

        Tuesday, Nov. 27 - 6:30--8:00 p.m.

        Holy Cross Lutheran Church

        1020 Mocho Street, Livermore

If you plan to participate in this meeting, please contact Douglas C. Miller, Synod Vice President at 925-989-6599 or by email.  Participation will be limited to the first 75 respondents.

During the month of November we remember those who have died, especially those most dear to us.

Please bring with you to church framed photos of loved ones to be placed during the month on the altar.

This month's Green Challenge is themed "Consumption" and the Green Team came up with a multitude of great ideas.

Sadly we saw the narrow defeat of Proposition 37 this month, which would have required the labeling of GMO foods.

The Consumption Green Challenge offers great responses on how we can be informed and empowered in our buying choices.

Teeda Valeriano invites to come to Sing For Your Sugar, a December Dessert Salon.

The concert will feature a new east bay women's collective called Lady Parts, performing music from many times and genres.

The Chapel has been teeming with activities from Animate Small Groups to large celebrations. Click here for a selective list!

As always, all happenings at the Chapel need to be booked through the Chapel office.

So please contact Annika at 510-843-6230 so your group, meeting, or event is on the schedule.

Deadline for announcing an event on Sundays is
Wednesdays, 5pm.

Thank you for helping us welcome everyone and accommodate all groups.
