Saint Arnold Army Newsletter
Dear Saint Arnold's Army:

Our New Icon Green is 7220 Pale Ale

If you loved the Icon Blue - Coffee Porter, grab it quickly because it is currently disappearing from the shelves. The next in our Icon Series, Icon Green - 7220 Pale Ale will begin appearing on shelves next week. Here is the story behind this beer.

Every year when we go to Germany to select our Hersbrucker hops, the hop growers co-op we purchase from brings out some experimental hops for us to rub. We give feedback on the hops and have gotten small amounts sometimes for test brews and even have been early users of some of these hops, as we were with Mandarina a couple of years ago.

This past October we rubbed a hop that intrigued us. It had a lush tropical character that overlayed a nice floral/fruity noble base. The hop had no name, just a number: 2010/72/20. Only a few hundred pounds of this hop were grown last year but we were excited about it and were able to secure about half of the harvest which was enough to brew a single batch. This is the beer we are calling 7220 Pale Ale.

This is a single hop pale with 72/20 used in the kettle for bittering and finishing as well as for dryhopping in the fermenter. The grain bill is just pale 2-row and a small amount of light caramel malt. The beer has a medium light body with a pleasant bitterness and a floral and tropical hop flavor and aroma. We are describing it as an American/German Pale Ale hybrid (if such a thing were to exist).

Because we only had enough hops for a single batch, this beer will be available for a briefer period than most Icon releases. In other words, get it quick! We hope you enjoy it.

As an aside, this hop was given a name earlier this month: Ariana. While we're not sure of the marketing wisdom of it, Brock keeps saying he's going to wear a mini-skirt, cat-ears and brewers boots to help people remember the Ariana name. It might be impossible to forget!

Our Icon series is available on draft and in six packs of 12 oz. bottles.

Pub Night at Saint Arnold with Houston Dairymaids
Friday, April 22 - 5:00 - 10:00 PM

This Friday evening is Pub Night, and our friends at the Houston Dairymaids will be joining us (as they do every fourth Friday) with beer and cheese pairing flights. Because beer and cheese are delicious together.

For the evening, we'll be tapping a keg of Pumpkinator 2013, our big Imperial Pumpkin Stout. Also available: Divine Reserve No. 16, our smoky Adambier, and several limited release bottles: BB12, BB13, DR13 and DR15.

If you're hungry for more than cheese, Chef Ryan and our kitchen crew have your back. They'll be serving up deliciousness in the form of Burgers, Brats, Pineapple Teriyaki Wings, Smoked Brisket Quesadillas and more!

Rockin' Rollin' Prints 2016 at Saint Arnold
Sunday, April 24 - 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

One of our favorite art events each year is PrintHouston's Rockin' Rollin' Prints. This Sunday, over 50 artists from around Texas will bring their hand carved woodblocks to our parking lot and turn them into prints by driving a two-ton steamroller over them. How else would you do it?

This year's theme is Under Pressure. After the prints are pressed, they'll be hung in the Beer Hall for viewing. If you fall in love with one, you can take it home - the prints will be for sale. Burning Bones Press will also be upstairs with their It Came From the Bayou print fair.

PrintHouston and Burning Bones will both have commemorative glasses for sale at a price of $10, which includes a pint of beer. Alternatively, you'll have the option to purchase beer. This event is free and open to the public all day - no tickets are necessary for entry.

Santo De Mayo Social Runs at Whole Foods
Wednesday, April 27 and Thursday, April 28

Remember, the best way to train for our Santo De Mayo 5K (at the brewery on Sunday, May 1) is to drink beer and eat tacos! We suppose you could run a little bit too. At next week's Whole Foods social runs, you'll be able to pick up your packet for the 5K, run and enjoy $2 Saint Arnold cans afterward. Tacos will also be available for $3 each or three for $7. Check out the Facebook events here:

Wednesday, April 27: Whole Foods, Sugar Land

Santo De Mayo Pub Crawl in Montrose
Saturday, May 7 - 2:00 - 6:00 PM

Santo De Mayo is right around the corner, and this year, we're moving our annual Pub Crawl to the Montrose area. Like we've done a few times in the past, this stop will feature two different routes. It's going to be a hoot and a half.

Everyone will start at Rudyard's, and there you'll learn your route. Obviously, we'll do our best to not split your group of friends in half. Both routes will end at the same place - Doc's.

The prize for completing the crawl is our limited edition Santo De Mayo pint glass. We will have a large but limited supply. Designated drivers are always encouraged to participate and eligible for the award! Here's the layout:

Start at 2:00 PM:
Rudyard's

Your route will include some (but not all) of the following:
Hay Merchant | La Grange | The Burger Joint | Stone's Throw
Royal Oak | Pistolero's | Brasil | Poison Girl | El Real

Final Stop at 6:00 PM:
Doc's

Boardwalk FantaSea: Craft Beer Fest Cruise
Saturday, May 7 at 1:00 PM

We'll be down on the Kemah Boardwalk on Saturday, May 7 for a very special cruise. Like the kind of cruise with Saint Arnold beers aboard. That's our favorite type of cruise!

Our brewer and wood cellar manager Aaron Inkrott will be captaining the ship (not really) and hosting a tasting of our beers, each paired with a different food course. Featured beers will be Divine Reserve No. 16 (Adambier), Bishop's Barrel No. 13 (Bourbon Barrel Quad), our brand new 5 O'Clock Pils, Art Car IPA and Boiler Room Berliner Weisse.

The cruise boards at 12:30 PM and will last about an hour and a half. Advance ticket sales are $59.95 per person, or you can get a combo admission to the cruise and the Craft Beer Festival - also at the Kemah Boardwalk the same afternoon.

Get all the details and tickets here.
