Dear Saint Arnold's Army:
It's a big sports weekend in Houston, which generally means it's a big beer weekend. At least, that's how we do things. If you're heading out to the Shell Houston Open, look for Art Car IPA and Fancy Lawnmower cans at the craft beer booth.
If basketball is more your thing, there's beer for that too! You can enjoy a Saint Arnold at NRG Stadium while you're catching the action live or grab a $3.75 Saint Arnold draft at Doc's in Montrose during their big watch tournament party.
On a different note, beginning Monday, we'll have two scheduled public tours at the brewery each weekday. For the lunch crowd, we'll now have a public tour at 1:00 PM. Another tour will be offered at 3:00 PM. This one will take the place of our current 3:30 tour, thus affording you a bit more time to enjoy beer after the tour concludes.
As always, the public tour is free to go on. Please note though, if you want to attend the downstairs portion of the tour while we are in production, closed toed shoes are required. This does not apply to Saturdays (when we are not in production).

UrbanHouse Saison at Pub Night Friday, April 1 - 5:00 - 10:00 PM At our company Christmas party a few months ago, our brewers had a special gift for each employee. This gift was a bottle of experimental beer, and our employees don't mind being guinea pigs for that sort of thing. The beer was named UrbanHouse Saison, and while none of these bottles are available in the wild, a small amount ended up in kegs. At Pub Night tomorrow, we'll be tapping the first one.
So, what is UrbanHouse Saison? We'll let our brewer and wood cellar manager Aaron describe it himself:
"UrbanHouse is our spin on the Belgian farmhouse/saison style. We took Fancy Lawnmower wort, unfermented beer, and filled two red wine barrels that previously held Dubbelganger, our Sorachi Ace Dubbel with brettanomyces. We then pitched two different saison yeast strains to ferment with the residual brett. Farmhouse/saison styles have been a favorite of mine to brew at home, so I wanted to do that here and take it a step further by fermenting in an oak barrel."
"The Fancy Lawnmower recipe is very similar to a saison in malt and hops, so it was a perfect candidate to experiment with. We bottled and keg conditioned this beer, meaning we added sugar and yeast at bottling/kegging to naturally carbonate the beer."
Sounds interesting, Aaron - what's the beer like? "The aroma has the similar floral characteristics provided by the Hersbrucker hops. The major distinction is the added funky, earthy characteristics provided by the brett and saison strains. The aroma is similar to pear, citrus, and pepper/spice, and there's a crisp, biscuit-like malt flavor that finishes dry. It's slightly higher in alcohol (5.8% ABV) due to the yeast and brett fermenting the beer further than our Kölsch yeast."
In addition to the debut of UrbanHouse Saison at Pub Night, we'll have a few other special release beers, including Divine Reserve No. 16 on tap. Bishop's Barrel No. 13 will be available in bottles, along with other DR and BB bottles.
On the food side, Chef Ryan will be doing his thing in the kitchen as usual. There will be Burgers, Brats and Crawfish Rolls, along with Jalapeño Sriracha Wings, Skirt Steak Quesadillas and more. Come hungry!
