Saint Arnold Army Newsletter
Dear Saint Arnold's Army:

Divine Reserve No. 16 Coming Monday

Monday is a very special day - it's February 29, Leap Day. We'll be celebrating our extra day with the release of a very special beer, Divine Reserve No. 16, an Adambier.

If you're not familiar with the Adambier style, you're not alone - the style was largely extinct until just recently. Back in the day, Adambiers were popular in Dortmund, Germany. In the mid-19th century, Pilsners and Munich-style lagers began to take over, and the Adambier went into hiding for a while. We are doing our part to bring this style back.

Our Brewing Operations Manager Stephen wanted to do just that with DR16. German-style beers are his wheelhouse, and he wanted to brew a beer that was unlike anything we've brewed before. Thus, the Adambier.

DR16 is a full bodied beer with layers of complexity.  There is a deep, rich maltiness that is balanced by the artful use of smoked malt.  While the smoke character is present, it is more subdued than you would find in a rauchbier.  There is a subtle Noble hop aroma and a slight caramel character that becomes more prominent as the beer warms up. The Kölsch yeast adds a light fruitiness.

DR16 has a moderately-high bitterness that is balanced nicely by its residual malty sweetness, and there is no lack of alcohol warmth as you easily finish a pint. DR16 comes in right at 10% ABV.  This beer is ready to enjoy now but will also cellar well cold for at least five years.

Pub Night at Saint Arnold
featuring Houston Dairymaids Cheese Pairings
Friday, February 26 - 5:00 - 10:00 PM

We just love when the Houston Dairymaids bring their handmade cheeses to the brewery. There aren't too many things better than a perfect pairing of cheese and beer. At this week's Pub Night, they'll be serving a flight with the following pairings.
  • Mozzarella Company's Cella with Boiler Room Berliner Weisse
  • Rogue Creamery's Echo Mountain Blue with Art Car IPA
  • Beehive Cheese Company's Barely Buzzed with Icon Blue - Coffee Porter
Also on Friday, we'll be tapping a special cask of Icon Blue - Coffee Porter, with Vanilla Beans! It's the first time we've tapped one of these casks.

If you want more than cheese and beer, Chef Ryan and our kitchen crew will be serving up deliciousness in the form of Burgers, Brats, Gumbo Fries, Beef Fajita Quesadillas, Buffalo Wings and more!

Happy Independence Day, Texas!

On March 2, 1836, the Republic of Texas was established with the adoption of the Texas Declaration of Independence. We like to think that the Texans who signed that document celebrated with a beer afterward. So that's how we celebrate these days.

For this Texas holiday, you'll want to be drinking a Texas craft beer (like ours!). You might even want to drink it out of a commemorative Texas Independence Day pint glass. We have a feeling you'll be able to find both of the above at these places on Wednesday, March 2.
  • Down The Street
    • Also featuring Spring Bock at 5:00 PM
  • World of Beer, Katy
    • Celebration at 6:00 PM
  • Mojo's Sports Grille
  • Cottonwood
    • Featuring DR16 at 7:00 PM
  • Poison Girl
    • Tap Takeover featuring DR16, Pumpkinator, Icon Blue and Spring Bock
We'll also be celebrating at the brewery with a very Texan Lunch Special. On Wednesday, March 2, from 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM, we'll be serving a 16 oz Ribeye with Roasted Potatoes. You're welcome to order a salad if you like, but we'll need you to sign a waiver and officially reject your Texas citizenship. Enjoy Oklahoma.

College Station Pub Crawl

Saturday, March 5 - 2:00 - 6:00 PM

Next Saturday, we're hitting the road and bringing our World Famous Pub Crawl back to the lovely folks of College Station. Come out and paint the town maroon with us!

We'll utilize our usual open house schedule for the first seven stops - this means you can visit them in any order. You'll get your ticket at whichever stop you decide to visit first, and from there you'll visit the rest of the stops. We will be handing the tickets out between 2:00 and 3:00 only, so make sure you get out there by 3:00.

At 6:00, everybody will gather at the final stop, and that's where we will award the prizes. The prize for completing the crawl is a glorious Saint Arnold Pub Crawl pint glass. We will have a large but limited supply. Designated drivers are always eligible for the award and encouraged to attend! Here's the layout:

Hit these spots in any order between 2:00 and 6:00 PM:
O'Bannon's Taphouse

TUTS Sweet Taters Night at Saint Arnold
Thursday, March 10 - 6:00 - 9:00 PM

In March, our friends over at Theatre Under The Stars are debuting a fully staged and produced version of their original musical, The Sweet Potato Queens. The production is loosely based on the life-story of #1 New York Times best-selling author and SPQ founder, Jill Conner Browne, and the organization's philosophy which was born out of her need for some excitement and a new direction.

To celebrate the new production, we figured a kickoff party and sweet potato cookoff at the brewery was in order. Cottonwood, Reef, and Southern Goods will join our Chef Ryan Savoie and his kitchen crew for a peoples choice competition. May the sweetest taters win!

Tickets are $25 and include admission, your beer for the evening and a sampling of each sweet potato dish. Sweet potatoes are one of the world's healthiest foods, so it really is in your best interest to join us!
