Saint Arnold Army Newsletter
Dear Saint Arnold's Army:

Icon Blue - Coffee Porter:
Now Available in Six Packs

For our next Icon, brewer Eddie knew he wanted to make a Coffee Porter. His test brewing process began with developing the beer, then seeking out the perfect coffee. The base beer was a lighter, chocolately porter, not overly roasty - the coffee would add that.

After the beer recipe was finalized, we needed to find the right coffee. For that, we went across town to visit our friends at Java Pura Coffee Roasters. They were happy to help (they must have figured they'd end up with some of the finished product - smart folks). With their help, we were able to find the coffee that would work best in the beer.

We ended up adding 45 lbs of their ground Espresso blend to the beer after fermentation. Adding ground coffee rather than brewed makes the finished beer fruitier and more aromatic. The fresh, raw coffee aroma we were seeking illustrates why using a high quality coffee is important.

The result of all this is Icon Blue, a medium bodied porter with a balance of chocolate, roast and coffee flavors. There is a mild sweetness that is balanced by both the coffee and the combination of Bravo and Willamette hops.

Beginning with this release, our Icon series will be available on draft and in six packs of 12 oz bottles. That's 50% more beer!

Saint Arnold Bratwursts are Back!

Our delicious beer brats are returning to a grocery store near you - just in time for your Big Game grilling session. These sausages are made with our beer - Amber Ale and Santo. Their recipes are the same as before, but now they've got fancy new labels! You should see them at HEB and Central Market stores throughout Texas next week.

How do they taste? With Amber Ale, the rich, malty body and caramel character produces an all-around flavorful brat. The dark malt flavor of Santo results in a brat with a hint of roast. Both of them, as you might imagine, pair excellently with the beer they are made with. Oh, we recommend that for your party too.

These brats are a collaboration with Smithfield-Farmland, the largest pork supplier in the US. They are as passionate about producing high quality products are we are about brewing world class beers. These brats are made with high-quality USDA-inspected cuts of domestic pork and our beer - shipped fresh from Texas. They contain no MSG.

Upcoming Fun on Twitter and Periscope

Here at Saint Arnold, we love brewing beer. We also really enjoy talking about it and bringing you behind the scenes of the brewing process. With Twitter and Periscope, we can show you the belly of the beast.

On the first and third Thursday of each month, we'll be hosting an #AskASaint session on Twitter. With these, a member of our Brew Crew will take over our account to answer your questions. Beer will always be a topic, but you're welcome to ask anything really. Our next #AskASaint session will be on Thursday, February 4 with Aaron, Brewer and Wood Cellar Manager.

We've also been using Periscope to broadcast live video from different areas of the brewery. We'll broadcast every Wednesday, with other days sprinkled in here and there. With the Periscope app on your phone, you can watch our broadcasts and ask us questions while we are live. Let us know what you want to see!

We'll also be featuring photos of some rescue animals belonging to our employees and you, our lovely supporters. If you have a rescue animal you'd like featured on our social media, snap a nice photo of him/her with a bottle of Ale Wagger and/or wearing one of our collars. We'll make your pet famous!
