Saint Arnold Army Newsletter

Dear Saint Arnold's Army:

20th Anniversary Barleywine Ale Coming Monday

For our 20th anniversary, we wanted to brew a beer that was both celebratory in nature and one that embodied our brewery. Much discussion went into what this beer would be. It should demonstrate our philosophy of balance, our love of malt, a generous but not palate wrecking amount of hops, and last but not least, showcase our house yeast. The determined goal: an elegant, complex barleywine. We are pleased with the results.

The color is a deep burgundian brown with a tan, creamy head. The nose is spicy with malt and alcohol and an orange citrus hop note. Toffee and caramel flavors combine well with spice from a combination of the hops and the alcohol. The balance is perfect with the malt and hops tingling together in unison from start to finish. There is a slight lingering dry bitter that stays with you but this also complements the sweetness from the all malt grain bill that could easily have become cloying. On repeated tastes, and as the beer warms, a soft dark chocolate note starts to come forward adding to the interest of this beer.

This beer is drinking very well today and should be exquisite on our 25th anniversary. We recommend aging cold for best results.

Our 20th Anniversary Ale is available in 22 oz bomber bottles in stores, as well as on tap and in casks around town. We will be releasing a few batches over the next two weeks, so if you miss the first release, hopefully you will have a pleasant surprise a few days later.

Learn more about our 20th Anniversary Ale.

Some of us will be celebrating the release Monday at Spec's Downtown on Smith St. There will be no limit on bottles, and from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM we'll be sampling 20th Anniversary Ale, Boiler Room Berliner Weisse, Endeavour and Summer Pils. Their lunch special for the day will be a burger with a chipotle/20th Anniversary Ale sauce.

Homefront IPA Baseball Bat on eBay

When we brew Homefront IPA, we finish the beer in the bright tank with two things: orange zest and Louisville Sluggers. The orange zest you can actually taste in the beer. The Louisville Slugger you can own.

We've placed one of these bats up for auction on eBay. As with the profits from the beer itself, 100% of the money raised from this auction will benefit Operation Homefront. The bat is engraved with our name and the Operation Homefront logo. Our Brew Crew will personalize the bat by signing it and thanking you (or whomever you wish to have the bat made out). If the winner attends, we will present it to you at Pub Night on June 13 (see below).

See the Homefront IPA bat on eBay here.

Pub Night with Homefront IPA Presentation
Friday, June 13 - 5:00 - 10:00 PM

Next Friday at Pub Night, we'll welcome Operation Homefront, and present them with the Homefront IPA check. The dollar amount on this check will reflect 100% of the profits from our Homefront IPA. Thank you again to our partners, suppliers and distributors who helped us support this cause. And thanks to all of you who are enjoying Homefront IPA this year.

Of course, we'll have Homefront IPA available for the evening. We'll also be tapping a cask of Divine Reserve No. 14 with mosaic hops and the last cask of Icon Blue - Brown Porter. Bishop's Barrel No. 2, our old ale aged in chardonnay barrels with cherries, will be available in bottles. Food will be available from our kitchen as well.

On Pub Nights, we open our tour hall from 5:00 - 10:00 PM strictly as a bar and let you choose what you want to purchase. There's no entry fee for the evening, so you can just choose beers by the individual glass or bottle. You've given us great feedback on them so far, so we'll be keeping them up on a monthly basis. Pub Nights are strictly 21 and up.

And finally...

That's right. In a much anticipated one hour television special, Endeavour IPA2 announced last week plans to package himself in four packs of 12 oz bottles effectively immediately. Fans of his original uniform need not fear - he will remain in 22 oz bombers as well.

Thank you as always for the support!

Cheers!
