Saint Arnold Army Newsletter

Dear Saint Arnold's Army:

As the rain finally clears and the kids hit the streets,

Keeping watch for the tricks and in search of the treats.

A pillowcase full of candy will make them all cheer,

While the parents stand back, looking forward to beer...

Happy Halloween from the whole Brew Crew at Saint Arnold!

Christmas Ale Pub Crawl, North Village Edition
on Saturday, November 9

This is our 19th annual Christmas Ale Pub Crawl. The granddaddy of all Pub Crawls - the one that started them all.

This will be our North Village Pub Crawl with five stops. We are utilizing our "open house" schedule for the first four stops. This means that we will be signing tickets at all four of the first four stops for four hours so people can split up between the establishments. You will get your ticket at whichever stop you decide to visit first. But, VERY IMPORTANT, we will only be handing out the tickets between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM. Thus, you still need to start between 2:00 and 3:00.

Then, at 6:00 PM, everybody will gather at the final stop, and that's where we will award the prizes. The prize for making all five stops will be a glorious, glorious pint glass. We will have a large but limited supply. As always, designated drivers are both eligible for the award and encouraged to attend! So here is the layout:

The first four locations:
  • Hans Bier Haus
  • The Big Easy
  • Kelvin Arms
  • Kay's Lounge

And the final stop at 6:00 PM:

  • Under The Volcano
Remember to bring cash, meet new people and be seen with a Saint Arnold in your hand.

Bishop's Barrel No. 5 to be Released Monday, November 4

Brewer Vince Mandeville had a favorite Wee Heavy recipe he kept tinkering with that ultimately became our Divine Reserve No. 4 released in 2007. We weren't the only ones that enjoyed it as it won the gold medal at the World Beer Cup in 2008 in the Strong Scotch Ale category. It is still drinking exceptionally well over six years later.

We rebrewed the recipe in December of 2012 and this time put it in bourbon barrels and aged it for nine months. Next week, it will be coming to you as Bishop's Barrel No. 5. Here are Vince's tasting notes on it:

The flavors and aromas of the base beer are true to the Divine Reserve No. 4. It is filled with caramel, toffee, dried figs, cocoa and a slight peatiness. Where it deviates is with the roundness of flavors the bourbon barrel contributes. Vanilla, cinnamon and a touch of rich earthy pipe tobacco mix with an alcohol warmth that adds to the rich creaminess. The great thing about this beer is that the barrel aging adds to the whole without taking away the character of the original.

Please remember, because of the small amount of beer produced from the barrels, Bishop's Barrel releases are only available at your favorite bars and restaurants.
