Association benefit of the month: Scholarship

Each month we will be highlighting benefits available to you as a member of the Maverick Parent & Family Association. Hopefully this will remind you to take advantage of these great resources!

This month we are highlighting the Association scholarship. Each semester, the Association awards 2-3 scholarships to students of parents in the Association. This spring, we will award three, $800 scholarships. One scholarship is awarded to a freshman student, one is awarded to an upperclassman student, and the third is open to all students.

Don't forget to remind your student to apply for the spring scholarship by the Feb. 8 deadline. The application can be found here.

The winners will be announced during halftime at the UTA basketball game on Feb. 28.

Black History Month events

Join us on campus for a reception for Association members, April 2
Mark your calendar now for April 2, 2013 and make plans to join fellow Association parents and family members on campus for a night of complimentary wine and music! The Parent & Family Association will be hosting a wine reception at Digg's Taco Shop on campus in the new College Park District from 6-7 pm, followed by a night at the Maverick Speaker Series, featuring music legends Aaron Neville and Ellis Marsalis, at 7:30 pm in the College Park Center.

Hit singles with Ronstadt include "Don't Know Much" and "All My Life," which also earned Grammy awards. A proud Louisiana native, Neville has been inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame as well as the Delta Music Hall of Fame in Ferriday, La. His latest album is My True Story.

Parent volunteers needed

Each year, the Parent & Family Center (PFC) brings important stakeholders together for a round table discussion to provide feedback and suggestions on current programs and services offered through the PFC. We value feedback from members of the Parent & Family Association and are seeking volunteers for this advisory board. The date/time of the discussion is to be determined, but the time commitment would be approximately one hour on campus. If you are interested in providing feedback or new ideas on how we can better serve parents, please email parents@uta.edu.
