July 2014 Newsletter
You can't use up CREATIVITY.  The more you use, the more you have.

~Maya Angelou

Hello Dear Readers,

It's been since March that I've sent out a newsletter and I know you're all wondering if I'm still writing them.  The answer is Yes.

The first part of this year has been a full one at Dorsch Interiors.  I've been fortunate to be busy decorating your homes and a few commercial projects, including the terminal at the McKinney National Airport.

This has left me less time to sit and write, so I thank you for your patience and hope you'll enjoy, once again, our newsletter this month.

5 Decorating Items

You Didn't Know You Needed

When decorating a home, there are several items that I would consider staples.  Items that you can use in any room, with any decorating style.  They are the classics that every home needs.  Here are 5 of them.

The Tray

If I've had the honor of decorating your home, chances are that I left you with a tray or two.  That's because trays can be both beautiful and practical, a desirable combination in decorating your home.  Trays can be found in almost any color, shape and style, and can be used in any room of the house.

You're all familiar with the coffee table tray, but consider the possibilities in other rooms.

In the Bedroom, a tray can help contain the necessary bedside and vanity items.

And of course, as a Bar.

The Throw Pillow
We cannot underestimate the power of the pillow.  One throw pillow alone will have minor impact, but combined with a group, the change to the room can be amazing.
And although some pillows can get a bit pricy, there are many selections out there at very reasonable prices allowing you to change your pillows and freshen up your décor at any time.

Can you see the possibilities?

A Full Length Mirror

I have noticed, to my amazement, that many of the clients I visit, don't have a full length mirror.  To me, this should be a staple in every home. How else do you know what you look like head to toe before you leave the house?

In fact, every home should have at least 2 full length mirrors, if possible.

Books
It's hard not to love a beautiful book, even if you're not a reader.  And in the decorating world, they're a designer's best friend.  Books are that perfect accessory that is at home in any room of the house.

The use of personal books in decorating is best because it gives a more personal feel to the home owner.  But when more books are needed, incorporating purchased books is a must.  I have often purchased books for decorating based purely on size and color.

Whether on a mantle or a tabletop, books can be used as pedestal for smaller items or as a "filler" accessory almost anywhere.

The Clock
The clock is another one of those decorating items that are both practical and beautiful.  And in this digital age, I love the traditional feel it brings, even in the most contemporary decors.

Whether placed on a tabletop or hung on the wall, a clock will fit into any room's décor.
