Decorating Your Coffee Table

First off, let me say that there are hundreds of ways to decorate the coffee table.  Simply because there are hundreds of items and their combinations.  So it stands to reason that it's not so much the items you use, but their placement on the table.

Here are some guidelines you can follow, that will work with whatever you use.

  • Odd numbers rule!  That's not to say that even number displays don't.  But usually, placing accessories in odd numbers is a more pleasing look.
  •  Strive for varying heights.  If I've helped you in your home, you know about the importance of peaks and valleys!  Accessories that are all similar sizes and heights make the display boring.
  • The triangle placement pattern is a sure thing!  If using 3 accessories on the table, place them in a triangle pattern for a balanced look.

If you're unsure of what to use, there are a few items that are proven basics for decorating the coffee table...

  • Candles Always a classic, whether a set of candle sticks, or a single candle. Plus, the added benefit of scent!
  • Books  Few accessories are more versatile than books.  And today there are faux books in all types of designs, which provide beauty and storage.
  • Greenery  There's nothing like that organic element that greenery brings to the table (no punt intended!).  And it doesn't even matter if it's silk or real.
  • Bowls  I love using large bowls on coffee tables.  They add color and serve to contain and hold remotes, etc.

Then, of course, there's the classic tray!

A tray is usually reserved for the ottoman coffee table.  But it's actually quite practical to use in any table. A tray will keep the "stuff" contained within perimeters for a more organized look and can be easily picked-up to clear the table when needed.

There are no rule as to the number of items to use on your coffee table.  Some like many accessories, and sometimes, using a single item is all the accessorizing you need.

So don't underestimate the impact of the coffee table decor. Go ahead, try something new.  Hope these ideas have given you the tools to change things up a bit for a different look and feel.

Hope I've inspired!
