President's Letter
We've heard from many of you that 2014 has been an incredibly busy year. We've been busy too, working hard on all aspects of ASID to make participation a better-than-ever value for you! The outlook for 2015 is great, with several new membership benefits coming your way!
And in this season of giving, this newsletter reflects on our ASID relationships new and old, Industry Partners that give back and ways for your holiday shopping to benefit the ASID Foundation. It's an important part of our society to pay it forward and we hope you will join us. Whether it's through a donation to The Foundation, volunteering with your chapter or encouraging a fellow future interior designer, we hope this season fills you with such inspiration.
Here's hoping your holiday season is merry and bright!
Most Sincerely, Corinn Soro President, NYU/CE Chapter of ASID

Student Perspective - Real World Design Week
Submitted by Jordan Kowalski, Student Member ASID

During Real World Design Week, I was lucky enough to
shadow Corinn Soro from Kideney Architects for a day. Corinn took me to ECMC in the city of Buffalo to take a look at the project that she is currently working on.
I was able to see the improvements Corinn and her team were making on ECMC's orthopedic floor. Prior to shadowing Corinn I never thought that I would be interested in healthcare design, but it really taught me the potential that this field has and the importance of changing and improving the healthcare environment.
Joining ASID has already proven to be very beneficial to me and I am excited to see what is next!

In Memory of Chester Sagenkahn, FASID
|
 | Chester Sagenkahn 1919 - 2014 |
We are saddened to report that a dear ASID Fellow, Chester Sagenkahn, age 95, passed away in Florida on November 27th, 2014. Chester had a unique and lifelong history with the interior design profession and ASID.
Born in 1919, Sagenkahn was raised in Syracuse and was accepted to Harvard in 1936. While at Harvard he joined the freshman college swim team with his good friend, the late President John F. Kennedy. He served in World War II and returned home to found Sagenkahn Interiors in 1948. He joined the National Society of Interior Designers in 1948 and in later years, when several organizations merged in 1975 to form the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), Chester retained his membership. Sagenkahn became a Fellow of the Society in 2009. Fellowship is the highest honor that ASID bestows on its members.
Sagenkahn eventually moved to Naples, Florida where he still oversaw the daily affairs and administration of his design firm in Syracuse. During its peak, Sagenkahn Interiors employed forty-five designers in three locations in New York. He had personally worked on over 6,000 residences and 1,000 commercial jobs.
Remembered for his commitment and enthusiasm to the profession, our sincere sympathies go out to Chester's family and friends. Please send your condolences here.

Specifying Products That Give Back |

Interface Net Effect is a carpet tile that benefits small fishing villages in the Philippines by ridding their shores of discarded fishing nets and providing income from the sale of the carpet tiles back to the villages. The fishing nets are turned into nylon yarn fibers that are in turn used in Interface carpet tile.
Blanco's Attika sink with its elevated modern rim design and bold architectural character has won many prestigious awards. Every time the sink is specified, a donation is made to support the fight against AIDS.
Patcraft Butterfly Effect carpet tile was inspired by and supports the good work of Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital. For every square yard sold, a portion goes to pediatric cancer research and Saint Jude's care that is free to children and their families.
