2014 promises to be anything but dull. The frigid weather has not kept north-country designers under the covers! In January, Rochester ASID designers designed and manned a booth at the Rochester Spring Home Show. A full crowd listened to Kay Sargent, of Teknion, speak to a full crowd at r.o.i. Office Interiors in Albany. Cynthia Leibrock gave a talk on "Universal Design for Health and Longevity" at the SU Design Warehouse. These are just a few of the things that have been going on in Upstate/NY and Canada East - and this is just the beginning of the year. There's more to come....
High on my list of upcoming events is REDISCOVER: ASID Network 2014 - it's coming up fast -March 27-28th to be exact. We took some time to rethink our Network event and we've come up with a winner at the MOST in downtown Syracuse's Armory Square. There will be a Trade Show and Open Museum, a USGBC CEU, and other ceu presentations, student activities and a RE.STYLE Competition -- Here's a chance to be creative by reusing typically discarded objects! Check out our event site: http://asidnyuce.org/events/rediscover-asid-network-2014/day-of-the-event/

ROCHESTER HOMESHOW MEMBER FEEDBACK
Thank you to all members who took the opportunity to give back to the ASID New York Upstate/Canada East chapter at the ACS Rochester Spring Home Show recently. We had the opportunity to meet National presenter: Ahmed Hassan of HGTV Yard Crashers and Blog Cabin and talk to him after his presentations. Naomi and Dan Harel and Dani Polidor had a chance to speak about our design passions to the public and both presentations were well received with many great questions after wards.
Dani Polidor, ASID of Suite Artistry
The recent American Consumer Shows "Home Show" in Rochester N.Y. was a great opportunity for the ASID NY/UCE Chapter to educate the home consumer about the benefits of working with a professional interior designer. We explained how we work, how we charge and what we can do to help the homeowner achieve their interior design goals. We began many of the discussions with the question: "Have you ever worked with an interior designer"? As you can image we got a variety of interesting answers!
Dani Polidor, ASID of Suite Artistry gave a presentation about Aging in Place and Naomi Harel, ASID and Dan Harel of INVISION DESIGN PARTNERS, LLC gave a talk about Professional tips for Successful Home Interiors you can Apply.
The booth ("a home office") was a wonderful collaborative effort put together by several Rochester Professional ASID members including Naomi Harel and Dani Polidor. Creative Commercial Designs, Sedgwick Business Interiors and Messners Carpets graciously loaned the furniture, accessories and rug. Also helping in the booth were: Kathleen Burbank, Mary Golden, ASID, Cathy Emilian, ASID, Mary Sue Schwartz, ASID and Janet Bowman, Assoc. ASID. Additional thanks go out to Alan Alaimo of Trowel Art for transportation and schlepping of furniture!
It was a successful endeavor and one that should be repeated whenever the opportunity presents itself.
