AHEPA Welcomes Restoration of Apostolos Andreas Monastery
AHEPA welcomes the completion of renovations to the historic Apostolos Andreas Monastery located at the northeastern tip of Cyprus' Karpas peninsula, announced Supreme President Andrew C. Zachariades.

"The bi-communal effort, under the lead of the UN Development Programme Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage and implemented by the Programme's Partnership for the Future, that led to the successful completion of the monastery's restoration, is to be lauded." Zachariades said.

The supreme president added his gratitude to the U.S. Embassy in Nicosia, and specifically the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), for their role during the restoration process. USAID was one of the financial contributors to the project.

AHEPA first visited Apostolos Andreas on a historic goodwill mission in May 2001. Most recently, the AHEPA family surveyed the restoration efforts during a Leadership Excursion in May 2015.

Maloney Issues Statement on Turkish Provocation in Aegean
U.S. Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY), co-chair, Congressional Caucus on Hellenic Affairs, released the following statement, Nov. 1, regarding the rising tensions in the Aegean due to recent Turkish provocation:

"Under the auspices of the Lausanne Treaty, for the last 93 years, the islands of the east Aegean have been rightfully Greek. For Turkish President Erdogan to now lay claim to these lands is egregious and inflammatory. I condemn this outrageous and false claim and urge the international community, especially the signatories of the treaty, to do the same. These islands are Greek and have been for nearly a century and Turkey has no legitimate claim to them whatsoever."

ACTION ITEM | Help Us Grow the Hellenic Caucus!
Congress has departed Washington for the November elections.   AHEPA asks for your help to grow the Congressional Caucus on Hellenic Issues to newer heights. Let's make a final push to ask U.S. representatives to join the Hellenic Caucus before the 114th Congress comes to a conclusion in December.  Make an effort to outreach to your U.S. representative while he or she is in the district for this work period or on the campaign trail.  The Hellenic Caucus has been an active, bipartisan group in Congress since its founding in 1995.  It is co-chaired by U.S. Reps. Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) and Carolyn Maloney (D-NY).

Membership in the Hellenic Caucus stands at 137.

Tsipras Chases Political Revival With Greek Cabinet Reshuffle Bloomberg (Nov. 4) Greece's president swore in a new cabinet after Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras sought to turn around his political fortunes and work toward better terms from creditors by naming new ministers. Skourletis was moved to the interior ministry, while Stathakis's replacement as economy minister was Dimitri Papadimitriou, president of the Levy Economics Institute at Bard College in New York.
