Greetings from Chancellor Robinson

Dear WSSU Alumni,

I am honored to assume the role of Chancellor for Winston-Salem State University. While this is my first week on the job, I have very strong personal and professional connections with this great university.

Growing up in rural Eastern North Carolina, I heard a great deal about WSSU. During my time at North Carolina Central and Cambridge College, I still managed to keep an eye on what was happening at Winston-Salem State. So I was truly humbled when the Board of Governors for the university system voted unanimously to allow me to become the thirteenth Chancellor.

Now I'm here and excited about the future I see for the university. Of course, I want to spend some time listening to all of our constituents and that includes you, our students, faculty, staff and the community. During these first few months I will be sharing some of my vision for WSSU and I will be interested in hearing what you think as well.

Continuing the success of this university will require an ability to take advantage of the opportunities we will have and to deal with the challenges that we know we will face if we are to continue to improve the educational and social experiences for our students. Our goal is just not to graduate students, but to ensure that they have a well-grounded education and have developed into a well-rounded adult. We know that is what is needed if they are going to be successful in the next phase of their lives.

Our success depends on their success and a great deal of our success will depend on our ability to work together to provide the support these students need. I know that I cannot create an environment for success alone. I will need your help. More importantly, our students will need your help. So, don't be surprised when I ask you to share your time, your talents and your treasure with your alma mater.

As we begin a new year, I wish you all the best for 2015 and I look forward to spending time with you and to celebrating a lot more great things happening at Winston-Salem State University.

Early Monroe Legacy Weekend
January 16-17, 2015

The proud history of Winston-Salem State University basketball will be on full display January 16-17, 2015, as the WSSU Department of Athletics is proud to announce The Earl Monroe Legacy Weekend. The Earl Monroe Legacy Weekend will be held in conjunction with the Lady Rams/Rams basketball games versus St. Augustine's
University.

This year's Legacy Weekend will be the third time WSSU has held Legacy
Weekend. In celebration of the rich and storied history of WSSU basketball, some of the top players in school history will be honored for successes both on and off the court.

Among the other activities for the weekend will be an Alumni Game on Friday evening that will feature former WSSU players. Highlighting the weekend will be a jersey hanging when the legends of Winston-Salem State University basketball will be honored with replicas of their jerseys being hung in the C.E. Gaines Center for all to see.

Another highlight of Earl Monroe Legacy Weekend, is the alumni All-Star game on Friday night. The game is a great experience as former Rams and Lady Rams who get a chance to make a proud return to Winston-Salem State University. It has been a huge success with current and former students of Winston-Salem State University crowding into the C.E. Gaines Center to see players from the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s take the court once more. The game is a tremendous experience not only for the fans, but also for the players who get a chance to see the growth and development of their proud alma mater.
