Jenkins, Harlan Join WSSU's
Advancement Team

Andrea Jenkins and Nathan Harlan have joined the Advancement Office at Winston-Salem State University with Jenkins being named director of major and planned gifts and Harlan serving as director of corporate and foundation relations.

They are filling two vacant positions and will report to Michelle Cook, vice chancellor for advancement and executive director of the university's foundation.

Most recently, Jenkins had served as a major gift officer with Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center where she was involved in alumni and donor efforts for a $1 billion comprehensive joint capital campaign with Wake Forest University.  Prior to working at the Medical Center, she had served as director of fundraising and marketing for Communities in Schools of Forsyth and Stokes counties.

Jenkins earned her M.P.A. in nonprofit management from High Point University and holds a B.A. in political science and African American studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.  She is a member of the UNC-G Alumni Association board of directors, the advisory committee for the Black Philanthropy Initiative of the Winston-Salem Foundation, and a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Prior to joining WSSU, Harlan had served as director of development and communications for Mountain BizWorks, a non-profit that helps local small businesses start, grow and create jobs through loans, classes and coaching.  He was responsible for fundraising efforts that raised $1 million annually in grants and donations, as well as for the organization's communications and marketing efforts.

Harlan had previously been a development associate for major gifts and grants with the National Wild Turkey Federation and director of development for the Chattahoochee Nature Center.  He also spent four years in development with the Land Trust Alliance working in Kentucky and Washington, D.C.  Harlan earned a B.A. degree in English from Western Kentucky University.
