Hi Everyone!

May has been an action packed month for the staff, intern and volunteer team in the UK as well as for our partners across East Africa.  This month we are thrilled to bring you news from our partner CST based in Mbeya, Tanzania and their exciting project with Cerebral Palsy Africa, developing paper based technology and physiotherapy to help children with the support they need both in school and at home.

We also bring to you a blog from our supporter Chiedza Muguti, following her journey through Live Below the Line 2014, where she bravely took on the challenge of living on £1 a day for 5 days to raise money to support our work.

And much more!  so read on to catch up on all our news!

Thanks for your support and happy reading!

Cerebral Palsy Africa visit to CST in Mbeya!

Cerebral Palsy Africa visited our partner CST in Mbeya, Tanzania in April this year to provide follow up training on the paper based technology that they have been developing with CST over the past couple of years.  Here, Una Murphy, an experienced Physiotherapist, gives us an update on their trip to CST.

"Well, we are back! I feel that it all went off very smoothly indeed.  It was made easy for me as Kennett knew where we were headed and had already established a warm rapport with Noelah (Director of CST) and her family as well as all the "Fundis" (carpenters).  This meant that there was a very warm welcome for us on arrival!

I was most impressed with all that Noelah has achieved since she began her school and workshop.  I found that she has a very good relationship with her staff and with the children.  We had a song and dance welcome from a great bunch of happy children when we arrived on the first school day''.

Why I lived on £1 a day!!

One of our fantastic supporters, Chiedza Muguti, took part in the Live Below the Line campaign for AbleChildAfrica at the beginning of this month.  Here she tells us why she decided to live on £1 a day for all her food and drink for one week, and what this meant to her.  Thanks for your support Chiedza!!

"After a few years of going through some difficulties with my health, I realised just how much I take for granted in my everyday life.  Recovery was not an easy road and on occasion, I wondered if I'd ever get back to my old self.  It made me more appreciative of what I have and also showed me that I am a lot stronger than I thought!  Following on from this, I have started to challenge myself by embarking on a tough physical journey which led me to taking up the Live Below the Line challenge to raise money for people who aren't as blessed as we are and who struggle to get the basics they need to survive.

It is very well known how much I love food (and a drink or two!) and I knew it would be tough but I knew that I could do it, and I did!!

AbleChildAfrica at the International Disability and Development Consortium General Assembly 2014

AbleChildAfrica attended the annual International Disability and Development Consortium (IDDC) AGM in Cambridge 14-16th May 2014. Katy attended the Thursday workshop on Access to Health and below shares some of the topics covered and discussions that ensued.

"I always look forward to the IDDC AGM as it's a great opportunity to link up with other disability and development NGOS from across the world, to hear about the work they are doing and how we can collaborate on a local level- which I personally find really exciting! I arrived bright and early in Cambridge on a sunny Thursday morning and attended some fascinating and informative presentations on Access to Health from a range of industry experts''...
