Happy New Year to all our supporters!

2014 has already started off as a great year for AbleChildAfrica and we are hoping this year will be even more successful for us and our partners than 2013.

In this month's edition, we bring you the latest news from our partners Little Rock and CST as well as updates from what we are doing in the UK and some exciting events ahead for you to get involved with.

Thank you as always, for your support.

Little Rock wins Malaika award

Our partner Little Rock Inclusive ECD Centre in Nairobi, Kenya was recently awarded the 'Notable Educator of the Year' award presented by the Malaika Trust in Kenya.  The award celebrates the achievements of remarkable people who make a difference in the world.  In particular, the ceremony pays tribute to disabled Kenyans who are making a difference in society.

Congratulations to Little Rock!  We are very proud of you, keep up the great work.

Live Below the Line Campaign

We are pleased to announce that AbleChildAfrica will be taking part in the Live Below the Line Campaign in 2014.  This is an innovative awareness and fundraising campaign which challenges thousands of individuals and communities across the UK to live on £1 per day for 5 days.  By taking part in this campaign, we want to increase understanding of the challenges faced by those living in chronic poverty.  The World Bank estimates that 80% of disabled people live below the poverty line, we want to raise awareness about this shocking statistic and raise funds to support AbleChildAfrica's life changing projects in Africa.

In order to achieve this, we need your help!!

Don't want to run a marathon, grow a moustache or jump out a plane but still want to challenge yourself and raise money for a great cause?   Then read on here to find out more about the challenge and how to get involved or email amber@ablechildafrica.org.uk to sign up to take part.

CST opens Fun Village in Mbeya!

On December 3rd, Child Support Tanzania (CST) chose the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, to launch two innovative income generating schemes that it hopes will support the sustainability of its early childhood education centre. In an event attended by over 250 people, CST proudly opened 'CST Fun Village' as well as its own furniture workshop to members of the public, following a year of intensive preparations.  The Fun Village is a unique playground, the first of its kind in rural Mbeya!

Tough enough for Tough Mudder?

Following on from AbleChildAfrica's huge success at Tough Mudder 2013 where the team made up of Staff, Trustees, supporters and our immensely courageous Patron, Paralympian Anne Wafula Strike, bravely tackled 12 miles of mud, sweat, barbed wire, ice and electric shocks, the Team is ready to take the challenge on again!

To raise money to support our fantastic work, we are always coming up with creative and innovative ways for our supporters to get involved with our work.  If you are feeling tough enough to take on the challenge with us and are keen to join our incredible team, then we would love to hear from you!

We are taking part in both London events this year, on Saturday 26th April and Saturday 25th October, but we advise you to sign up NOW as there are a limited number of places available which are going on a first come first serve basis.

To sign up please contact amber@ablechildafrica.org.uk
