Hi and welcome to November's edition of AbleChildAfrica news!

This has been an eventful time for us at AbleChildAfrica, with lots going on in the UK office as well as overseas with our partners in Africa.

This month, our newsletter focuses on the great work we have been carrying out here in the UK including the launch of our Annual Review and our fantastic Annual Gala dinner- attended by Guest of Honour Ade Adepitan!

Finally, we want to say a massive 'Thank You' and Goodbye to our Programme Officer, Chris James, who left AbleChildAfrica this November after more than 18 months. We thank him for the great contribution he has made, especially supporting our partner's CST in Tanzania and ANDY in Kenya.  You will be greatly missed!  Chris has been replaced by Yana Zayed, who joins us with a wealth of experience gained both in the UK and overseas working in disability rights.  Please read on for more details about our newest member of staff!

Thank you as always, for your support.

AbleChildAfrica launches our Annual Review 2013

We are very excited to release our Annual Review for 2013! Packed full of reports, stories and pictures on how we have supported our partners in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania over the last year to deliver on their strategic objectives and continue to establish ourselves as the leading UK NGO working with and for disabled children and their families in Africa.

We are very proud of our achievements over the past financial year 2012-2013 and would like to thank all of our friends and supporters for making it possible!

AbleChildAfrica hosts its Annual Gala Dinner

On November 15th, AbleChildAfrica hosted our third Annual Gala dinner at One Moorgate Place in London to raise vital funds to support our work with our partners in East Africa in 2014. 100 guests joined us for fine food, speeches, entertainment and to hear about our achievements this year, both in the UK and Africa

We are truly grateful to everyone who came along to support us on the night, especially to our Guest of Honour, former Team GB wheelchair basketball Paralympian, Broadcaster and Disability Rights Campaigner, Ade Adepitan who gave a moving speech about his own lived experience of disability and his recent visit to projects in Uganda supported by DFID.

Spotlight on our people: Yana Zayed

Introducing the newest member of the team: Yana Zayed

Hi everyone, I'm Yana and I've recently come on board at AbleChildAfrica as a Programme Officer. Having spent the past seven years living and working in the Middle East, joining the organisation definitely marks a new and exciting phase in my life! Although I have not ventured into Sub-Saharan Africa yet, I have been working on inclusion and disability rights for nearly 10 years now, so I hope to bring my energy and skills with me to support our partners in the region. I am also looking forward to working with the team here in the UK to advocate at the global level for an inclusive society that respects the rights of disabled people.

I feel lucky to be working with people who are also passionate about equality and can't wait to sink my teeth into the role.

There's a lot of work to be done and I hope there will be as many successes as there are challenges!
