| Welcome to your monthly e-news update from AbleChildAfrica.
Firstly, a huge congratulations to Chris James our Programme Officer and his wife, Jo, on the birth of their new baby boy, Oscar Benjamin last week! We can't wait to meet him!
March has been a great month for AbleChildAfrica with so much going on, both in the UK office and in East Africa! We have been busy with end of year reporting and looking ahead to starting the new financial year with some exciting new projects with our partners.
This month we bring you a spotlight on one of our team Members Anthony Ford and one of our Marathon Runners Ellie Farnfield and an update from CST, one of our partners in Tanzania. We also tell you about exciting new opportunities to get involved in our work including getting your child's school involved or taking part in the Nightrider challenge!
As you know, we really value our supporters and would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support for AbleChildAfrica and all the work we do.

| Vodafone World of Difference - introducing Anthony! | |

Hi!
My name is Antony Ford and I'm with working with AbleChildAfrica on the Vodafone World of Difference program.
Last year, I was fortunate enough to be involved as one of the main organizers of the Extraordinary Mile event with AbleChildAfrica. This year I am back again!
The project I will be working on over the next few months, will be to develop an outreach program for primary school. I will be researching and developing an outreach program to work with London primary schools in order to help AbleChildAfrica build their profile and to raise awareness with young people about the issues surrounding disability in Africa, here in the UK.
The project will be piloted during the summer term and will hopefully grow in the future to reach as many schools as possible and spread the underlying message of AbleChildAfrica's work within the social model of disability and enable all children that we work with to reach their full potential.

| Spotlight on a Partner- Child Support Tanzania | |
This month we bring you exciting news from Child Support Tanzania (CST) our Early Childhood Education partner in Mbeya Tanzania. In 2012, AbleChildAfrica facilitated initial training in making adaptive seating and standing equipment for children with mobility difficulties using nothing more than cardboard, flour and water! This training proved to be a resounding success for CST, who used the paper-based technology to make both furniture and learning materials for the school. Pictures speak 1000 words and the immediate impact on learning this has for students who previously did not have the proper seating is clear to see.

The furniture and toys started at
attracting so much interest from the local community that soon CST was making items to sell in order to generate income for the school. Thanks to a generous grant from Jersey Overseas Aid Commission, this project is currently being expanded and 2013 will see it rolled out as a proper income generating business to support the sustainability of CST's education programme.
To see more pictures of this fabulous Paper-Based Technology project, including how they pieces get made- please see our photo slideshow.

| The London Marathon 2013- Spotlight on a Fundraiser | |
Well done to all our Marathon runners who are doing a fantastic job of training and fundraising in the run up to the London 2013 Marathon in April this year.
To support our runners on their fundraising journey, each month we are featuring a different runner in the lead up to the marathon on the 21st April. This month the spotlight is on Ellie Farnfield, who so far has raised £790 for AbleChildAfrica, having been motivate to run the marathon for us after her personal experiences with disability in Africa. Keep up the great work Ellie!

Hi! I'm Ellie,
This year, I'm finally running the London marathon. After breaking my ankle several times doing sports and having to have a metal ankle fixed in its place, I'm ready and rearing to run! (sort of!!)
In 2009, I spent a few months in Africa (Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda) doing a variety of charity work. Whilst in Uganda, I slept in a mud hut, learnt to tribal dance, taught in schools and women's groups, helped the Red Cross and went digging at 5am every morning. Although it was a wonderful experience and I met some really inspirational people along the way, the hardship and reality of some people's life was shocking.
Whilst in Uganda, I caught Cerebral Malaria and ended up in intensive care. Click here to keep reading!
Please visit Ellie's page
and help her on my way to my fundraising target!
